Under the Kinetics Coordinator’s supervision help develop, organize and implement high quality gymnastic/cheerleading/acrobatic programs. The preferred candidate will spend approximately 85% of their time teaching, with the balance of their time devoted to daily operations and building a top-notch team of individuals who are 100% committed to providing outstanding customer service. This position supports the work and mission of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, health living and social responsibility. This is a full-time, hourly position with afternoon, evening and some weekend hours.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Assist in the implementation of all aspects of the gymnastics, cheer, acro, tumbling and dance programs.
- Conduct safe classes in a nurturing environment while ensuring that all classes are high energy and fun.
- Assist the summer camps by providing leadership, program development and coordination of program.
- Lead/teach all programs from tots to team levels in the Kinetics area.
- Provide instruction, coaching and feedback to all gymnasts during practices and meets that reflect the core values of YMCA competitive gymnastics.
- Assist in the development of the practice workout regimens to be used for each skill level group.
- Work with the Kinetics Coordinator to develop practice and meet schedules in accordance with YMCA guidelines; considerations for schedules include balancing the needs of the team program with the general membership of the Y.
- Maintain records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, meet results, team records, qualifying times, etc.)
- Ensure that program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained in an orderly and safe manner.
- Build relationships with members and program participants.
- Remain current in knowledge of, and operate within YMCA gymnastics rules and regulations.
- Attend staff meetings, trainings and special events as scheduled.
- Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Must enjoy working with children of all ages.
- Provide leadership and support to volunteer committees as assigned.
- Help set up and tear down equipment.
Educational Background:
Must be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma.
Skills/Experience:
- Must have experience in gymnastics, cheerleading or acrobatics team and coaching; knowledge of skill and gymnastics development.
- Must complete state-mandated concussion training immediately and keep certification current (renews every 3 years) and USAG SafeSport.
- Necessary certifications include: American Red Cross CPR and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer, AED and O2.
- Must be able to demonstrate coaching skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
