The Sports Director provides management and supervision of youth and adult sports activities and camps related to the branch.  The Sports Director is responsible for all aspects of care and maintenance of branch facilities, equipment and grounds as it relates to his or her department.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Conduct the promotion, preparation and implementation of YMCA youth and adult sports programs.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all related program equipment and supplies at the branch and for the maintenance and supervision of facilities and grounds utilized by the youth sports department which are not owned by the YMCA.
  • Actively maintaining cordial and positive relations with public and private school authorities.
  • Recruitment, screening, training, placement and evaluation of youth sports volunteer coaches.
  • Employment and supervision of part time staff, officials, and related staff in the youth and adult sport department.
  • Coordination with other staff on scheduling of activities and programs at the branch and sports fields.
  • Visit youth sport practice sites during all seasons of sports, establish rapport with volunteer coaches, and evaluate coach/participant relationship.
  • Promote the benefits and services of family membership which are available to youth and families.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment related to youth and adult sports.
  • Maintain a training schedule to stay current on all safety procedures and techniques for facilitating.
  • Ensure that the mission of the YMCA is incorporated into all services which are available to youth and families.
  • Ensure all scheduled activities are conducted in a timely fashion and at high levels of quality.
  • Ensure that maintenance of all equipment and provision of all necessary supplies is conducted in a timely fashion.
  • Provide for accurate records and make timely reports on attendance, enrollment and participation.
  • Ability to develop short & long-term plans with a high degree of quality, effectiveness and professionalism.
  • Perform as an effective member of the YMCA staff team.
  • All other miscellaneous duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Educational Background: 
Four-year college degree and demonstrated successful management experience with a high level of customer relationship knowledge.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in physical education activities and recreational sports/leagues.
  • Highly developed organizational skills.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office.
  • Must have experience in working with school aged youth, adult volunteers and participants in sports activities.
  • Must have high levels of enthusiasm, patience and concern for all participants.  
  • YMCA Team Leadership Certification to be obtained within three years of hire.

Salary: $34,411.00
