350.org is building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. Our online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries. 350.org works hard to organize in a new way-everywhere at once, using online tools to facilitate strategic offline action. We want to be a laboratory for the best ways to strengthen the climate movement and catalyze transformation around the world.
Areas of Responsibility:
- This role will be all about creating integrated communications and digital campaigns that will ultimately improve the lives of the poorest people who are often the worst affected by climate change. We want to put massive pressure on governments and energy producers to invest in sustainable energy by: educating and raising awareness of the impacts of climate change across Africa and the Arab regions; empowering, mobilising and building solidarity amongst people of different cultures and backgrounds; and ultimately by making sure that the voices of the poorest communities are heard by decision makers in their countries and across the world.
- You would report to 350.org’s AAW Team Leader and work closely with Regional Coordinators, campaigners and country volunteer teams to develop Africa and Arab campaigns to mobilise the people on the streets and partners in civil society. You will also be the team expert providing day-to-day advice on PR, social media, digital campaigns and direct marketing to country and regional teams.
- We are looking for someone who can brief pan-African and Arab media, handle press around major direct actions, write inspiring press releases and editorials, live and breathe traditional media and social media, train activists and leaders across the network in communications, and create great content to power the growth of our social media followings and keep our site engaging.
- This is a fast-paced environment and you are going to be covering a lot of issues in a lot of countries. From writing a press release in the middle of an action to coordinating media campaigns with dozens of partners, we need someone who is enthusiastic, dynamic, and creative, can play for the team and keep a cool head when it gets busy.
