Teach For America’s greatest contribution is the diverse, innovative, and courageous leadership force that we support across our state. The Coordinator, AmeriCorps, is a unique role that supports our network in both our Eastern North Carolina and Charlotte-Piedmont Triad regions and is responsible for providing AmeriCorps project management for the entire state. You will work closely with your manager, the Managing Director, Statewide Public Affairs and Initiatives to successfully manage this high stakes program that has a direct impact on corps members across the state. You will laterally manage, collaborate, and build relationships with various regional teammates to ensure that corps members’ experience with AmeriCorps is seamless, compliant, and enjoyable. This role is part-time with an average time commitment of 10-15 hours per week with seasonal periods of significantly increased hours, particularly during the summer.
AmeriCorps Program Management (100%)
Ensure Teach For America – North Carolina is meeting national AmeriCorps program requirements at all times, including maintaining an updated tracker of contents of every member’s file
- Manage distribution and collection of documentation for all incoming corps members
- File ongoing incoming required paperwork within 14 days of receipt and ensure all files are organized in the online portal
- Coordinate the distribution, collection, tracking, and filing of principal verification forms each April-May (prior to end of school year)
- Update a tracker and our files for all background and fingerprint checks
Manage eGrants member roster compliance, including:
- Manage corps member enrollment via eGrants, the AmeriCorps online system, including directly communicating with corps members who may need support or have missed deadlines
- Complete corps member exits via eGrants each summer, including verifying total program hours are accurate and meet the requirements of earning an education service award
- Complete and file status change forms with accompanying documentation and communication with corps members, including resignations, suspensions, early exits, and reinstatement
Provide North Carolina corps members, alumni, and regional and national Teach For America staff with timely, accurate information regarding AmeriCorps as requested or required, such as:
- Read and complete action items contained within AmeriCorps Corporation for National Service communications and emails from staff
- Complete and manage requests from Teach For America National Public Partnerships liaison
- Communicate directly with corps members when they have any questions related to AmeriCorps such as documentation, inaccuracies, troubleshooting with lending institution regarding student loan deferral, using their education awards for graduate programs, or other matters as they arise
- Experience planning and implementing complex organizational systems, such as complex record-keeping or digital tracking required
- Two or more years of work experience highly preferred
- Previous experience with AmeriCorps preferred
Work Demands
- Ability to work flexible hours to communicate with and meet the needs of members, occasionally outside regular business hours as needed
- Ability to independently manage a varied workload, including periodically heavier seasonal hours to meet deadlines, especially during May, June, and August
- Willing to work from home if not located near a Teach For America office location
