Under the direction of the Competitive Swimming Director, the Assistant Competitive Swimming Director (Head Age Group Coach) is responsible for assisting in the administration and direction of the Competitive Swimming program and supervision of the Competitive Swimming staff. The Assistant Competitive Swimming Director’s key function is to promote the charitable mission of the Westport Weston Family YMCA by building strong lasting relationships with members and their families, as well as employees. The candidate will assure that programs and facilities exceed the goals and objectives of the Westport Weston Family YMCA.  The Assistant Competitive Swimming Director must possess good organizational, communication and supervisory skills.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions, including dry land training.
  • Provide training direction, encouragement, and motivation in order to prepare swimmers for competitive events.
  • Schedule and coordinate swim meets and associated meet entries.
  • Use Team Unify software to manage athlete data, meet registration, team entries, team communication and other team functions.
  • Oversee Age Group coaching staff and coordinate practice and pool schedules, at multiple facilities.
  • Ensure safety of swimmers during practices and meets, following all YMCA risk management procedures.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in competitive swimming programs at the developmental level.
  • Knowledge in practical, theoretical, and psychological concepts of competitive swimming as well as an understanding of age and gender characteristics of children and adolescents.
  • Knowledge of the physiological aspects of competitive swimming training, and how to develop swimmers in a safe manner.
  • Experience in planning and running successful meets (both home and away).
  • Proficiency in Hy-Tek and Team Unify software preferred as well as the running of the Colorado Timing System. General computer competency required. 
  • Experience managing aquatic facilities, equipment, budget, and staff is preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $47,000.00 - $57,000.00
