As the Assistant for the One Day magazine team (the alumni magazine of Teach For America), your job is to bring top-notch organization to this team. You will be responsible for supporting all editorial and business functions of the print and digital magazine. Your responsibilities will include the following:
- You will help to create, sustain, and improve systems to manage all team functions, including maintaining a shared editorial production calendar.
- You will assist in creating the budget and tracking spending, hiring and managing contractors, and supporting One Day advertising sales, submissions, and billing.
- You will interact with teams across Teach For America in order to share partnership opportunities with the One Day team, as well as to create and manage mailing and distribution lists.
The ideal candidate for this role is passionate about the power of storytelling and interested in gaining expertise in print and digital magazine publication for mission-driven organizations. As a member of the One Day core team of six, you will bring your voice, knowledge and expertise to deciding what stories we tell and how we tell them. You will contribute to building articles for the digital magazine, and will assist in using digital analytics to inform editorial coverage. You will help develop stories by assisting as necessary with article research, reporting, writing, and production. You will contribute to a strong culture on the One Daymagazine team and the greater Collective Leadership and Engagement team.

- Working with the Managing Director, Editor in Chief, and Director of Digital Production, you will create editorial calendars and track progress toward deadlines.
- Working with the Editor in Chief, you will help to manage finance projects including the budget, contracting, purchase orders, payment requests, and support for advertising sales, billing and submissions.
- Working with the Director of Digital Production, you will help to produce, archive, and share digital articles and assets, and to analyze their performance online.
- You will manage the One Day magazine mailbox, including updating subscriber information and Teach For America records.
- You will create and maintain a system to tag and archive photos and photo permission forms.
- You will assist the staff writer in sourcing Class Notes and photos, and you will assist the editorial team with research, reporting, and writing as needed.
- You will participate fully in team meetings to develop story ideas and approaches.
- You will lead independently on special projects as needed by senior team members.

- This position is scoped for 45 hrs./week, with occasional travel and additional hours during peak periods.
