NRDC seeks a Program Assistant to provide administrative support to the Health and Food Program in our Washington, D.C. office. The Program Assistant will work closely with a group of NRDC staff working to in the United States to protect families and communities from toxic chemicals in their food, water, and shelter. The position provides administrative assistance to the various initiatives, requiring strong organizational skills, ability to juggle multiple tasks and willingness to work with diverse personalities and a fast-paced team.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Providing general administrative support to staff;
- Scheduling and organizing meetings and conference calls for program staff;
- Processing expenses, preparing budget reports, maintaining financial records
- Serving as an intermediary between the program and NRDC’s finance, accounting, and communications departments.
- Maintaining paper and electronic filing systems and databases;
- Handling incoming and outgoing mail and faxes;
- Making travel arrangements, including transportation, hotel accommodations, vehicle rentals and conference registration;
- Responding to and directing inquiries from the general public and outside organizations;
- Formatting, and compiling edits on letters, action alerts, reports, fact sheets, blog posts, and other project materials;
- Helping to put together expense reports for funders;
- Assisting the receptionist and other program assistants as needed.
- Performing other projects as assigned.
Skills/Experience:
- Experience in an administrative position preferred;
- Strong facility with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases, the Internet, and electronic communication;
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize and carry out multiple tasks, follow institutional procedures
- Ability to perform undirected work quickly and with meticulous attention to detail with minimal supervision
- Excellent oral communication skills and the ability to work well with people of varying backgrounds in a team setting;
- Willingness to be available for occasional overtime work; and
- Interest in food, health, and environmental issues
