Providing care for a family member, partner, or friend with a chronic, disabling, or serious health condition—known as “family caregiving”—is nearly universal today. It affects most people at some point in their lives. The need to support family caregivers will grow as our population ages, more people of all ages live with disabilities, and the complexity of care tasks increases.
Caregivers are highly engaged in the pursuit of health information, support, care, and advice, both online and offline. AARP has the opportunity to be a trusted resource for caregivers to learn about these services to potentially ease the burden of care. AARP Service Inc. (ASI) looks to offer best-in-class Caregiving products and services to its members in support of one of AARPs strategic initiatives – Family Caregiving. The focus is on specific key caregiver needs such as: In-Home Care, Health & Safety, Transportation, Meal Delivery, Social Engagement, Medication Adherence and Life Transition services (home modification, downsizing, legal services, etc.). One of core tenants of ASI’s product development philosophies if the inclusion of the voice of the family caregiver. Via a human centered design approach ASI learns first-hand the needs of the caregivers, co-creation with them in new innovations, and in under-addressed areas, shape the market to address gaps. ASI collaborates closely with innovative companies in the industry to bring best-in-class, differentiated products/services portfolio that meets the AARP quality standards.
