The Membership Communications writer partners with all Membership programs and channels to research, conceptualize and deliver on effective copy in support of strategic goals.
The Membership Communications Writer supports strategic Membership program goals by producing effective fundraising, engagement and activation communications. The writer is part of a 5-person Communications team that’s integral to deploying Membership’s innovative, best-in-class fundraising strategies. Team environment is fast-paced and dedicated to the Conservancy’s mission, while also prioritizing comradery, respect and joy in our role helping our supporters put their values in action through their charitable giving.
The writer is responsible for working closely with a variety of internal stakeholders on messaging and copy for email, lead generation, digital engagement, direct mail, face-to-face, telemarketing, donor acknowledgements and member care. May also include web page writing and digital ad copy. Responsible for delivering high-quality copy on deadline, sometimes with short turnaround times.
This position Implements a continuum of messaging approaches that vary depending on specific prospect and member segments. Contributes to emerging multi-channel and omni-channel communication strategies. Advances Membership’s ultimate goal of ‘meeting our audiences where they are,’ while remaining consistent with the Conservancy’s overall brand positioning, platform and voice.
The writer works closely with Communications team colleagues to develop and refine concepts for campaigns and individual communications touchpoints. Also works with colleagues throughout the Conservancy to research and fact-check content and copy.

- Experience writing or editing direct marketing or fundraising communications.
- Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects.
- Understanding of communications best practices specific to direct marketing and fundraising.
- Ability to simplify complex ideas and conservation strategies into user-friendly, accessible copy.

- High level of comfort and aptitude with all basic office workplace technology, including MS Office.
- Ability to organize time and manage diverse activities.
- Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.
- Duties require non-routine research and follow-through.
- Leverages constructive and effective relationships inside and outside the Conservancy.
- Work is performed in a typical office setting but may require willingness to work long hours as required.
