The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the YMCA of Selma-Dallas County (“YMCA”) must be an active and engaging leader who will align resources and efforts to address the needs of the community. The new CEO is responsible for advocating the YMCA Vision within the community by engaging and connecting key stakeholders. They must have strong fiscal management experience, experience with facility management and strong leadership skills. Organization goals will be met by ensuring that: the strategic plan is initiated, and measurable goals and outcomes are achieved, realistic & ambitious funding raising goals are met, community outreach and partnerships are established, and attainable operational goals are implemented to create high impact programs.
It is essential the CEO convenes with diverse populations to include key community leaders, partners, funders, public, faith based, governmental and other nonprofits to enhance the work of the Y in the community. This is an outstanding opportunity for a passionate visionary with a successful track record in fund development, team leadership and operational excellence to play a critical role in community impact. Seeking a leader that has a “fire in their belly” to lead an historical, but struggling, YMCA to regain its vitality and reclaim its heritage.
The board believes its new CEO should be an experienced leader who has the background and qualities that will permit him or her to achieve excellence in the following key areas:
- Improve Operating Performance: Partner with the board to identify issues and develop an annual tactical plan for achieving key YMCA goals and objectives to solve them. Remain fully informed of all operational issues and be able to quickly address issues that arise as well as forecast future needs. Manage and direct the Y’s operations and activities.

- Build and Manage the Staff Team: Serve as a leader who can motivate, engage, and retain staff in a positive and productive manner by creating and setting an expectation for excellence. - Advocate the Vision of the Y serving as a Cause-Driven Leader: Inspiring and mobilizing every community member and every Y staff member, program volunteer, board volunteer, and Y member—everywhere the Y has a presence—to make our communities stronger. Actively interact with and communicate with Y members, donors, staff and volunteers and be an active and integral member of the community. Serve as an ambassador for the mission, cause and vision for the Y and be seen and respected as a community leader. Develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, while always upholding the highest standards of the values of the Y.

- Fiscal Management: Ensure the Y’s financial resources are properly managed and report on its financial position. Use high level financial analysis to forecast trends, growth and stability while consistently leading Y to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff to lead their departments and monitor and meet budgets. Develop and implement stewardship strategies.

- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
- Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
Preferred Criteria for Candidates:
- YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (obtain within 3 years).
- Fiscally sound business management approach.
- Strategic planning and fundraising experience including annual campaigns and the securing of grants.
- A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management.
Hiring Range: $58,000 - $65,000/ annualized commensurate with experience
Residency Expectation: Living in the YMCA’s service area (Selma-Dallas County, AL) is required.
Benefits: Retirement contribution is a total of 12%; YMCA contribution 9% and employee at 3%.
