Donor Communications Manager

If you answered yes to these questions, NPR’s Development Division needs your help! We are looking for a communications professional experienced in fundraising to manage external donor communications. The Donor Communications Manager will serve as both a content creator and project manager, overseeing a portfolio of projects, including marketing materials and collateral, newsletters, event materials, stewardship projects, acknowledgment letters, emails, etc. They will ensure that materials produced by the Development Division reflect NPR’s brand standards and meet the needs of the intended constituents; oversee campaign related projects; and implement Development’s donor communication strategy. Reporting to the Director of Donor Communications, the Donor Communications Manager will also support the development of proposals, reports, concept papers and foundation grants as needed.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as Development’s liaison to NPR’s Marketing, Branding and Communications Division on materials designed for Development;
  • Articulate Development’s fundraising priorities and stewardship goals to creative partners to ensure donor materials reflect the division’s overall strategy and identity;
  • Serve as project manager, overseeing the timely production and delivery of creative materials;
  • Design graphics and templates for smaller creative needs (i.e. one pagers, email announcements, website graphics);
  • Manage the production and distribution of digital donor communications, including newsletters and interest emails online features for NPR’s donor website; and social media posts;
  • Maintain and curate a database of graphics and photographs for use in communications materials;
  • Manage content calendars for donor communications and stewardship touches;
  • Provide writing and editing support for development related materials, including proposals for major donors and grants for family and national foundations; stewardship reports; LOIs; acknowledgement letters; and annual fund appeals;
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or marketing (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to write for print, web and social media
  • 5 to 7 years of communications or marketing experience with at least 2 years in the nonprofit field
  • Strong grammar and editing skills
  • Strong graphic design skills, including compiling and framing graphics, metrics and charts
  • Experience with digital and email marketing and SEO (strong digital literacy a plus)
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects
  • Must be highly organized and have ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Highly collaborative and an appreciation of the benefit of a multi-disciplinary team approach
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a sense of humor

Preferred Skills:

  • Solid knowledge of website analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Webtrends, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience building, testing, and deploying emails within an ESP platform
  • Raiser’s edge or other database experience
