The Board of Directors of the Goldsboro Family YMCA is seeking a leader to build upon the rich history and financial success of the YMCA. The next CEO must meet the challenge of maintaining the strong financial momentum while setting a vision for the future with innovative and creative ways to serve the entire community. The YMCA is known in the community for its hospitality and welcoming attitude. It is important to continue this level of service and support through the development of leadership staff to create new programs and ways to serve more people throughout the entire service area.
A growing need in the community is to provide services and programs to outlying areas beyond the YMCA walls, such as an intentional partnership and engagement so the Y service mirrors the community demographics. A method to deliver on these initiatives are to increase philanthropic efforts and create strategic communication plan for the community to understand the mission and cause of the YMCA.
Key Deliverables Within the First 18 Months
- Create successful and strategic relationships with influential community leaders and members of diverse communities.
- Complete implementation of the strategic plan by aligning staff and committees to achieve measurable goals therein with launch renewal planning.
- Initiate new programs and services that seek opportunities to serve all in outlying neighborhoods within the Y’s service area.
- Develop methods to ensure feedback from members in evaluating membership model.
- Develop and implement an effective fundraising programs and practices that assure that public and private resources are available to support the Y’s operational mission and capital needs.
Board Expectations
Advocate the Vision of the Y, serving as a Cause-Driven Leader:
- Inspire and mobilize Y staff, members, board, program volunteers and area citizens —everywhere the Y has a presence—to strengthen the community.
- Actively interact with and communicate with Y members, donors, staff and volunteers.
- Be seen as an active and integral member of the community who earns respect as a local leader.
- Serve as an ambassador for the mission, cause and vision for the Y.
- Develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, while always upholding the highest standards and values of the Y.

Complete Implementation of Strategic Plan:
- Work effectively with the board of directors, volunteers, community leaders and key staff to address already identified critical community needs through new programs.
- Utilize current strategic roadmap focused on organizational strategies.
- Lead staff in the development and implementation of goals through an annual operating plan.
- Lead volunteers in aligning committees and their assigned area of work to support the strategies and goals of the Y.
- Review accomplishments with the board quarterly and renew the plan within 36 months.

Establish a Culture of Philanthropy:
- Initiate, build, and grow the Annual Campaign to support membership and programs to reach a diverse population
- Implement a Capital Campaign, which would finance facility renovations and establish new programs
- Continue to support Y’s Men and the annual Christmas celebration to support families in need

- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
- Minimum ten years prior experience in a senior leadership role with a Y or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
- Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
- Have the ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economy and the effectiveness in broadening our engagement in the communities in which we serve.
- Strategic planning and fundraising experience including annual campaigns, securing of grant and execution of a capital campaign.
- Fiscally sound business management approach.
Preferred Criteria for Candidates:
- YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (must obtain within 3 years of hire)
- Master’s degree
- Spanish speaking skills
- Residency inside Wayne County
- A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management in excess of $2.5M or more annually.
Hiring Salary Range: $85,000 – $110,000 annualized, commensurate with experience.
Benefits: Retirement contribution at 9% with employee contribution at 3% after eligibility requirements are met, vacation plan, health plan and other benefits per personnel policy included.
