The Owensboro Family YMCA is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, Program Director that will be responsible for Aquatic operations to include:  Swim Lessons, Lifeguarding, Special Events and other areas involved in the aquatics program department.  The Aquatics Director oversees the management of programs, staff, facilities, and volunteers.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Oversee part-time aquatic staff of approximately 10-12 lifeguards and 8-10 swim instructors
  • Primary responsibility for maintenance of the pool and all equipment

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviours that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
  • Establish strategic direction/vision for operations of the aquatic department, should include growth of adult and youth aquatic programs.
  • Recruits, hires, trains and supervises all staff including:  program staff, lifeguards, swim instructors, First Aid/CPR Instructors
  • Ensures that all required monthly trainings and drills are completed and recorded
  • Oversees development and delivery of quality aquatics programs including youth and adult swim lessons
  • Development and implementation of an annual program calendar for aquatics
  • Develop, manage and monitor department budget.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports regarding programs and operations as needed; ensures compliance with all state and county regulations
  • Participates in branch special events, volunteer committees and board.  Develop promotions that recruit and develop program participants
  • Establish vision and systems that ensure safety across all aquatic and program endeavors; lead collaboratively to provide systems that achieve sanitary conditions, safe environments, program excellence and member service excellence
  • Actively participate as part of the Owensboro Leadership team
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate work experience in aquatics and/or recreation preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Current Lifeguarding Certification, which includes First Aid, CPR professional level and Emergency Oxygen Administration (YMCA Lifeguarding preferred)
  • Experience working with children and adults
  • Experience supervising and training staff.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to develop staff
  • Ability to communicate through multiple generations and formats
  • Ability to generate positive revenue through programming
  • Pool filtration and maintenance experience preferred
  • YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor and YMCA Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred
  • 2/4 years of supervising minimum of 6-person staff team
  • Experience managing a budget preferred
Compensation/Benefits: 

STARTING SALARY:  $28,000 (Based on experience)
