350.org is looking for an experienced organiser and campaigner to support movement-building efforts in Poland leading up to COP 24, and to help explore options for possible longer-term engagement by 350.org in the country and the wider region in 2019 and beyond. This is a part-time position until January 15, 2019.
COP 24 presents a useful moment for 350.org to support growing climate movement efforts in Poland and the wider region. We want to use this moment to strengthen connections with Polish partners and grassroots activists fighting coal, campaigning on climate, and working on real solutions to the climate crisis. We want to offer an international platform for voices from Poland who are part of local and national resistance to repressive and regressive politics. And we want to reach some conclusions around the possible longer-term role of 350.org in Poland and in the wider region, in order to inform decisions about potential future organisational expansion.
To do that, we need a Polish Organiser who will:
- build 350’s relationships with people and groups working on climate and climate-related issues, as well with those working on other justice issues, with a focus on Poland but with an eye on and connection with the wider region
- identify spokespeople and stories that we can amplify regionally and globally in our media and online communications
- provide organising support to the follow up of the Climate Camp, and to related climate movement-building efforts in the lead up to COP 24
- help identify existing COP 24 plans by partners and allies in the movement, and scope 350’s potential support of them
- explore options for campaign development, including research and analysis, jointly with potential partner organisations in the country and with 350 staff in the the Europe Team and the EECCA (Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia) Team
- support 350’s scoping and decisions around possible longer-term engagement with or involvement in Poland and potentially bordering countries, in consultation with the Europe Team and the EECCA (Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia) Team
- campaigning and organising experience in grassroots groups and/or NGOs
- ability to work independently with minimal direction from others, and with effective time management
- ability to work collaboratively in a virtual team, including through online tools
- an existing network of contacts on climate and related issues in Poland
- fluency in Polish, written and spoken
- working-level proficiency in English, written and spoken
Desired (but not required) qualifications
- knowledge of the Eastern Europe political and climate movement landscape beyond Poland
- experience in direct action, mass mobilisation, online campaigning
- training and group facilitation experience and skills
Compensation: 99,200PLN - 124,000PLN
