Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Sports & Aquatics Director is responsible for developing, organizing and implementing all aspects of various programs including sports, aquatics (seasonal pool), and sports/specialty camps.
He or she will provide the community with sound programs in accordance with the YMCA goals and objectives. The Sports & Aquatics Director must have the willingness to project the YMCA representation by personal adherence to all policies and must exemplify the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA values of Faith, Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Responsible for creating and implementing strategies and operational plans to maintain programs, budgets, and staff of all related programs
- Responsible for the leadership and development of multiple programs including youth sports, adult sports, sports camps, and aquatics activities.
- Responsible for the leadership and development of supplemental programs as needed.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, and supervise staff to ensure quality daily administration, program, planning and implementation in all assigned programs
- Effectively motivate staff and volunteers to achieve YMCA goals
- Supervise staff in multiple departments.
- Develop, implement and monitor effectively forecasted program and facilities budgets to meet fiscal objectives
- Responsible for managing budget and taking appropriate action to correct variances, making certain of departmental financial viability, and producing departmental operational plans and strategies.
- Develop and maintain relationships with school administration, parents, and other organizations related to sports, aquatics and other assigned programs
- Ensure staff respond to all agency, parent, and community inquiries and concerns in a timely manner
- Monitor and evaluate program quality to ensure exceptional programs
- Ensure the recruitment of volunteers for effective, safe, and efficient operation of assigned YMCA programs
- Ensure all aspects of the sports, aquatics, and supplemental programs are organized and completed successfully. Aspects include, but are not limited to: develop and distribute team practice and game schedules; develop and distribute sports rules and guidelines; purchase all supplies including uniforms and awards; develop aquatics schedules; maintain pool for safety and quality, organize swim lessons, provide safe environments and quality programs for assigned supplemental programs
- Act as family center CPO for seasonal pool
- Ensure all YMCA program standards are met
- Ensure the City of Arlington , Health Department and OSHA standards are met for the pool and facilities where the YMCA operates
- Effectively manage the financial responsibilities associated with all assigned programs, assisting with marketing and distribution of program information
- Implement all YMCA policies and procedures for risk management/safety for all staff, volunteers, and participants
- Serve in a key leadership role for the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA’s Annual Support Campaign and achieve assigned Annual Support Campaign goals
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in recreation, physical education, or related degree or equivalent experience is preferred
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience leading and supervising sports and aquatics programming
- At least 2 years’ experience in supervising staff
- Previous aquatics experience or the ability to attain lifeguard, lifeguard trainer, swim instructor, and swim instructor trainer certifications
- Ability to achieve CPO certification within the first 90 days
- Must have a valid driver license
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to make oral presentations, direct meetings, and the ability to analyze financial data to determine pricing, margins, and marketing strategies
- Strong background in program development
- Must have strong skills in planning, organizing, and relationship building
- Experience in budgeting, supervision, training, and marketing
- Must pass Criminal Background Check and MVR- Motor Vehicle (must have insurable driver’s record)
- Establish plans for expansion of programs and services with overall YMCA objectives
- Ability to meet the needs of members and the community.
- Must be able to work effectively with a diversity of people, different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and all ages. Interacts regularly with parents, volunteer, staff and other community leaders
- Must have and maintain current CPR Pro/AED, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens training and other trainings required.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $47,000.00 - $50,000.00
