Under the direction of the Senior Director of Member Engagement, the Membership Director administers and gives direct leadership and carries responsibility, authority, and accountability for the Southeastern Indiana YMCA association’s membership department. The Membership Director has a great deal of flexibility in selecting, altering, and improving activities.  The Membership Director is expected to use initiative and creativity in accomplishing work, driving growth and retention, and member satisfaction.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • To administer and discharge the membership responsibilities in accordance with the policies and objectives established by the Board of Directors.
  • This person must have formal administrative understanding as an office manager and supervisor.
  • Hire, train, schedule, daily supervision, and management of the Welcome Center staff and Child Watch staff, which includes 2 full-time staff and 8-10 part-time staff.
  • Responsible for membership program administration including Membership promotions and Membership appreciation events. 
  • Supervising daily business operations and transactions relating to the membership department and Welcome Center duties.
  • Responsible for Manager-on-Duty role which will include schedule flexibility with 1-2 evenings per week, and weekend shifts as needed.
  • Responsible for procedures and follow-up to ensure the YMCA members are treated with courtesy, caring, respect and honesty.
  • Prepare and carry out membership budget.
  • Support and assist with the corporate memberships as well as new corporate relationships.
  • Responsible for managing Silver Sneaker memberships, Income-Based memberships, military member “lost job membership program” and any other special membership categories.
  • Analyzes problems and makes decisions guided by precedent and established policy, with understanding and confidence to make solid, thoughtful, independent decisions in regards to members, potential members, and the community.
  • Assist with Membership committee oversight alongside Senior Director of Member Engagement
  • Manage receiving charitable donations with accurately recording the donor to the gifts in coordination with Member Service Team member. This includes the Annual Campaign forms, pledges, and payments.
  • Train and receive Instructor Training to teach staff in First Aid and CPR.
  • Other duties assigned as necessary for job well done.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in sport leadership and management, sports studies, business administration, business management, or related field,
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum 3-5 years equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with standard business software (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.); Daxko membership software program experience desired, but not required.
  • Must have strong attention to detail, organization skills, interpersonal skills, and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries.
  • Successful completion of background check; First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications obtained within first 30 days of employment and then maintained throughout employment.
