Director of Youth Achievement and Community Engagement

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Youth Development, this position is responsible for youth achievement and mentoring programs and providing association leadership to the strategic diversity, inclusion and global engagement program. Some of the programs overseen by this position currently include Y-Winners, Y-Solutions and Youth Leadership Academy.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Prepare, maintain, and develop individual program budgets as assigned; maintaining net projections.
  •  Interpret YMCA policies and procedures to all staff in a positive manner. Ensure all staff complete appropriate trainings and certifications.
  •  Ensure all programs and events have adequate staffing and supervision.
  •  Promote and incorporate the YMCA mission, four core values, and abundant assets in all programs.
  •  Respond to member, participant, and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  •  Identify and maintain collaborative relationships with other community leaders and organizations.  
  •  Develop and implement an annual program plan including the creation of annual objectives and goals to strengthen and expand programs.
  •  Provide leadership in assessing Diversity, Inclusion and Global Engagement needs and develop necessary response strategies, solutions, inclusive frameworks, methods, resources and trainings in partnership with the CEO and Leadership Team.
  •  Design innovative initiatives for youth in urban and underserved neighborhoods.
  •  Develop and share relevant program metrics necessary for building the confidence of our community leaders and donors.
  •  Continually develop all program content, implementing new and improved curriculum as recommended by the YMCA of the USA and supervisor.
  •  Initiate the marketing and distribution of program information. Effectively communicate program offerings and updates to program partners, other YMCA staff, participants, and supervisor. 
  •  Assist in the organization and carrying out of financial development efforts.
  •  Represent the YMCA in community events or meetings when requested. 
  •  Coordinate association transportation needs with colleagues. Follow all YMCA policies and procedures in regards to transporting participants and utilizing YMCA buses. 
  •  Continue professional development as recommended by supervisor.

  •  Program outcomes will show increased engagement in school and increased positive behaviors outside of school with fewer negative indicators.
  •  Two Rivers YMCA will become an active leader in the YMCA of the USA Diversity, Inclusion and Global Engagement Innovation Network.  
  •  The Quad Cities will continue to view Two Rivers YMCA as an ideal collaborative community partner.
  •  All programs will remain fully funded with enhanced communication and aligned work of the Youth Achievement program and Development office.
Educational Background: 
Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Responsibility, or related field.
Skills/Experience:

  • Education and/or Experience: Must have at least one (1) year of experience working in a nonprofit setting, preferably with youth, and/or diversity management experience.
  • Language Skills: Strongly preferred written and oral multilingual abilities.Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from volunteers, members, and non-members of the YMCA. Ability to effectively represent the YMCA in the community when speaking to the community, community leaders, participants and staff.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages. Ability to compose and interpret a department budget.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: CPR/AED/First Aid for infant, child and adult, Blood borne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, and if driving for the YMCA a valid Driver’s License and valid Car Insurance. Other trainings as assigned. Team Leader Certification is preferred.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability tomaintain a safe driving record.
Compensation/Benefits: 
  • Health Insurance: 70% Y paid – 30% Employee                  
  • Dental: 70% Y paid – 30% Employee
  • LTD: 100% Y paid                                         
  • Life Insurance: 1x salary – 100% Y paid
  • Retirement: 12% Y paid (Once eligibility requirements are met)
  • Vacation: Per personnel policy: Full time employees accrue and are eligible to use paid vacation and sick time based on the scheduled fulltime YMCA service length.  (First full year you accrue 10 days each, that is accrued each month starting date of hire.)  Paid Holidays are also included.
