Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Mission Advancement, the Director of Individual Giving will oversee and provide strategic direction to support the fundraising for the organization’s membership centers and camps.  The Director will be accountable for working with the various Executive Directors of each center and camp with an emphasis on increasing philanthropic support and the number of donors for each center.  Additionally, the Director of Individual Giving will partner with members of the Mission Advancement team and the Executive Directors of each center to develop and implement consistent reporting mechanisms and a stewardship program for each center. 

The Director will serve as a liaison to one region of centers, while also managing two regional gift officers.  The Director may also manage a portfolio of prospective donors and may manage board members associated with his/her assigned centers. 

This role will extensively partner with members of the Y’s Operations team to ensure that we are providing consistent and efficient support to each membership center and the Executive Directors of each center. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work closely with the Senior Vice President to establish fundraising goals and key indicators for each membership center and camp. Support the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy to achieve these goals.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative and impact relationships with YMCA leadership and colleagues, the YMCA board, other volunteers, donors, prospective donors, the philanthropic community, and other related constituency groups.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of an Association-wide annual giving program that is appropriately segmented by unit and prospective donor status.
  • Develop, implement and provide regular reports on center and camp fundraising totals that are in alignment with Finance department reports with the appropriate analysis to guide the creation and implementation of actions to achieve goals.
  • In partnership with members of the Mission Advancement team, develop and implement a comprehensive and consistent stewardship program for the membership centers and camps.
  • Serve as a liaison to one region of Y membership centers and to the organization’s camps.
  • Manage a portfolio of prospective donors which will include 1) developing and executing strategies that will cultivate and secure annual gifts and commitments for special purposes; 2) initiating and supporting actions to qualify, cultivate, solicit, close, and steward gifts from prospective donors; and 3) staff Y leadership and key volunteers to support the building of a philanthropic relationship with prospective donors.
  • Write and/or edit fundraising proposals, letters, and presentations.
  • Organize and execute special fundraising projects/initiatives to secure support for key institutional priorities.
  • Serve as an articulate spokesperson for the YMCA as appropriate for Mission Advancement activities.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Accomplished professional with 5-7 years or more of fundraising experience with specific expertise in individual giving
  • Passion and commitment to the YMCA’s mission of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility
  • Minimum of 3 or more years of leadership/supervisory experience with the ability to manage, motivate and develop individuals and teams both directly and indirectly.
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising best practices and ability to monitor and adapt trends and best practices where appropriate to enhance Mission Advancement efforts. Demonstrated track record of setting and meeting/exceeding specific fundraising goals within the expected time period.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build sustainable, philanthropic relationships with volunteers and with donors that directly influences higher giving over time.
  • Superior verbal, written and presentation skills with the ability to adapt communication to the appropriate audience. Strong writing skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to take accountability for results, take initiative, as well as be adaptable, resilient, highly organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and influencing skills with the ability to foster trust both internally and externally.
  • Ability to travel locally as needed to support mission advancement activities
  • Demonstrates evidence of YMCA Team Leader competencies in previous experience or practice.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00
