Reporting to the Chief Marketing and Development Officer, primary responsibility is to develop and implement a multi-year Annual Support fundraising plan which includes a face-to-face component, special events, and third-party participants, manage and execute special events to support the Annual Support fund, oversee Grant proposals and reporting, Capital Campaign support and assist in Corporate sponsorship proposals.

The Director of Development works closely with the overall YMCA Staff and Financial Development Committee to create and implement a Donor Relations Program, which includes both systematic stewardship communications to donors as well as utilizing management strategies to expand the donor base and pipeline of donor prospects.  Embedded within the Y’s Community Outreach Team, the Director will work closely with the Y’s Marketing Teams to support the organizations overall efforts in engaging new donors and upgrading existing donors through sharing the energy and impact of the Y’s mission. This position leverages the Y’s programmatic vibrancy to build and deepen relationships within the philanthropic and Y membership. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Takes a leadership role in developing a comprehensive and effective campaign structure and directs and manages the Association-wide Annual Campaign with emphasis on campaign preparation, trainings, donor cultivation and stewardship, retention, supporting direct asks, communication and marketing materials.  Ensures the success of the Annual Campaign by providing continuous support to the Development Committee as well as to the staff. 
  • Develops and maintains a portfolio of prospective major donors for Annual Support as well as Capital Campaign.  Cultivates support among community stakeholders for the purpose of acquiring new Annual Support and Capital Campaign contributors. 
  • Recruits, motivates, trains and manages key workplace campaign volunteers.  Recruits volunteer leadership for the overall annual campaign from within the Y staff as well as membership base. 
  • Prepares, organizes and manages the development of all Annual Campaign assets including printed materials, videos, reports and the staging of meetings, as required.
  • Convenes and facilitates the Annual Campaign Steering Committee.
  • Oversees the data management of annual gifts and conducts regular analysis and reporting of annual campaign progress through Daxko or its replacement and/or Donor Perfect donor management system. 
  • Achieve the campaign’s overall objectives for funds raised. 
  • Manages all staff and volunteers with campaign assignments in analyzing, organizing and executing the Annual Campaign effort.
  • Establishes performance measures, monitors results and produce evidence that demonstrates the effectiveness of the Annual Support Campaign.
  • Special event management.  Staffs, manages and attends special event, projects and committees.  In collaboration with committee members and other staff, plans and manages all Annual Campaign fundraising events, including a Tricky Tray, Annual Golf Outing and Anniversary Gala.
  • Provides leadership to various volunteer groups supporting the Y’s mission.
  • Maintains awareness of advancements in philanthropy and fund development, as well as the general fields of management and the not-for-profit sector.
  • Participates in ongoing, year-round, cultivation activities with volunteers and donors. 
  • The successful professional will be stellar at building relationships and working across organizational departments to mobilize process and drive results. 
  • Candidate will have demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task under deadlines.
  • Developing and presenting creative partnership proposals for the facility as well as the special events.
  • Pro-actively sourcing potential partners and sponsors.  Create and present, in collaboration with CMDO, sponsorship proposals.
  • Management, direction and delivery of all incumbent partners’ contractual rights.
  • Ensuring all sponsors are integrated and achieve their business objectives.
  • Establishing a permanent market presence.
  • Manager-on-Duty you must be available to work pro-rata late night several times per month.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree with concentration in public relations, communications or a related discipline or equivalent work history.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in development in a not-for-profit with direct fundraising experience. 
  • Knowledge of the Y is preferred, YMCA Multi-Team Leader status a plus.
  • Incumbent must have demonstrated personal success in donor cultivation and solicitation experience with planning and execution of fundraising campaigns.
  • Strong customer relationship skills.
  • Strong critical and strategic thinking skills as well as creative and innovative thinking.
  • Excellent written communication.
  • Strong project management skills with timely and consistent attention to follow-up
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment to accomplish team goals
  • Ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Proven record of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups having diverse interests and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience motivating volunteers.
  • Extensive knowledge of computers and software, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and donor database applications in a PC environment.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00
