We are seeking a Manager, Development Events to plan, coordinate, and execute inspiring organization-wide events for Teach For America – South Carolina. Working with the Managing Director, Development this person will work to create a scope and sequence of events that will define the cadence and overarching vision on an annual basis. The Manager, Development Events will work with members of the Teach For America team to engage our corps member, alumni, community partner and donor constituencies through events. This person will be responsible for managing event budgets, logistics, and participant outreach and will work closely with the Director, Strategic Initiatives to publicize events and create promotional materials. This is a wonderful opportunity to ignite the TFA South Carolina community through thoughtful and intentional events that communicate our values and work with students.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Event Execution and fundraising (80%)

  • Create an annual event scope and sequence and develop a vision for each event
  • Coordinate and monitor event timelines and ensure deadlines are met
  • Work with the Managing Director of Development to develop inspiring program and work to prepare speakers, video, etc.
  • Manage all of the logistics for events including, tracking and adhering to event budgets, selecting vendors, visiting venues, creating guest lists, manage RSVP lists and pre-event correspondence, and keep inventory of event materials
  • Work with the Director, Strategic Initiatives to coordinate efforts to publicize events to create, edit promotional materials, and create and send invitations
  • Work with the Managing Director, Development to appropriately recognize event sponsors
  • Coordinate day-of event logistics, including registration and attendee tracking, presentation and materials support
  • Conduct post events analysis and evaluations
  • Raise approximately $500,000 in revenue from events, including through direct solicitation of sponsorships, on site fundraising, and innovative event-based initiatives (text to give, live auctions, partnerships with local businesses, etc.) 

South Carolina Regional Responsibilities (20%)

  • Participate in and support Teach For America South Carolina's team-wide responsibilities and events.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree preferred; significant work experience can substitute for the degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 3 years’ experience.
  • At least 1 year experience coordinating special events.

Work Demands

  • Willingness to work some weekends and evenings to attend or facilitate external or TFA-South Carolina corps member or regional events.
  • Ability to travel by car to in-person meetings in various South Carolina cities regularly
  • Must be willing to work from a Teach For America - South Carolina Office

  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, proof reading skills, and speaking.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments from a variety of staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by phone, with high professionalism.
  • Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision.
  • Fantastic customer service ethic and high expectations for quality.
