Under the general direction of the Branch Executive Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Wellness Director should be amotivated and visionary leader who helps drive membership through developing dynamic programs and department management. This position will provide hands-on leadership for the operations and development of healthy living programs, this includes group exercise, wellness floor operations, new member on boarding, and personal training; staff supervision and designing practices, processes, and procedures for strong program and project management.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Recruits, hires, and trains a diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. On-boards and develops them for success.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
- Manages the program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; organizing and scheduling program registrations; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; securing and scheduling the needed facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events.
- Achieves tasks, duties, and responsibilities assigned to this position that directly impact strategic initiatives.
- Represents the branch at various meetings related to the position, including all assigned branch and association committees
- Assists in branch fundraising activities and special events.
- Flexible work hours to ensure exposure to all facets of department operation and performs all other duties as assigned by my supervisor.
PROGRAM SPECIFIC:
- Maintains existing and designs/implements new health and wellness programs based on need and cost.
- Creates and schedules group fitness classes that are meaningful to our member base as well as an incentive for potential members to join.
- Schedules and monitors group fitness instructors, personal trainers, and wellness floor staff.
- Responsible for paperwork related to payroll, purchasing, budget, program and reports.
- Maintains accurate records of staff certifications.
- Coordinates and schedules equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Purchases equipment, parts and supplies as required. Coordinates and schedules equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Monitors daily operations to adhere to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies.
- Performs fitness evaluations for members.
- Performs duties of fitness instructor and personal trainer as required.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, exercise physiology, sports medicine, or related field.
Skills/Experience:
- ACSM Health Fitness Specialist certification preferred.
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
- 3 or more years of supervisory experience in the wellness field.
- Minimum age of 21.
- Ability to train wellness coaches and fitness instructors.
- Excellent communication and public relations skills.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Familiarity with personal computers helpful.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
- Incumbent must complete mandatory trainings of Child Abuse Prevention, BBP, CPR, AED, 1st Aid trainings within 30 days of employment and all other required trainings/certification within 90 days of employment.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $34,500.00 - $43,000.00
