Under the supervision of the Executive Director, this position is responsible for planning, developing, managing and supervising  all aquatics programs and activities; hiring and training new staff; training staff in CPR, First Aid, AED; fiscal management; and member satisfaction.

We are seeking a full-time highly experienced individual to oversee day-to-day operations of the Lawrence YMCA multipurpose pool. This individual will also oversee swim lesson programs, supervise a staff of 10-15 and provide innovative leadership in program management and staff development and retention.

Exceptional safety record in pool operations required, with a minimum of 3 years senior level aquatic management. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to teach others, and supervisory and team building abilities are a must.  This position will be a key member of the management team and responsible for program revenue and budget accountability. Work hours will vary based on program days and times.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises aquatic activities to meet YMCA objectives.  Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.  Develops and maintains collaborative realtionships with community organizations.
  • Serve as a part of the Lawrence Branch Management Team.  This will include building coverage, attending staff meetings, providing leadership at the branch in addressing membership and program issues and assisting other programs as needed.
  •  Recruits, hires, trains develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance.  Develops startegies to motivate staff and achieve goals.  Ensures records of staff certifications are current and completed.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA heqalth and safety regulations.
  • Conducts and ensuresproper maintenance of pool.  Secures and schedules pool facility.  Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Creates,schedules,and teaches swim classes and water fitness classes.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Actively seeks new collaborative partners to build the branch aquatics program.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in sport or recreation management or related field required
Skills/Experience: 
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer certified
  • AED certified
  • First Aid Certified
  • Lifeguard Certification (nationally recognized)
  • Advanced Certification: CPO, lifeguard instructor, first aid instructor, CPR instructor
  • A minimum of 3 years aquatic management or pool operations experience
  • Swim Instructor; WSI (American Red Cross) or YSL (YMCA) Certification a plus
  • Minimum age 21 years or older
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $40,000.00
