NRDC is seeking a Food Matters Project Manager to work as part of the Healthy People & Thriving Communities team, under the supervision of NRDC’s Food Waste Reduction Director. This position will be integral to the success of Food Matters, which is a new initiative working with cities that are committed to reducing food waste and addressing food insecurity The Food Matters project provides cities with technical tools to analyze food waste generation and food donation potential, and strategies and policies for food waste reduction, surplus food rescue, and food scrap recycling. The position provides day-to-day management and coordination of this cornerstone project within the Food Waste Reduction initiative. The Food Matters Project Manager will have strong organizational skills; the ability to juggle multiple, complex tasks; and the ability to work with a diverse and fast-paced team with limited supervision. The Project Manager is responsible for streamlining processes, and ensuring that project activities, deliverables, and expenditures are on track and on time. The Project Manager will play an integral role in developing and implementing convenings that bring together a wide array of food waste stakeholders and may have the opportunity to support policy work within the initiative as time permits. Preferred locations are New York City, San Francisco, Denver or Washington, DC. This position has a term of 18 months pending extension / renewal of funding.
- Assist Director in leading day-to-day operations and administration of the project;
- Schedule and hold regular coordination calls and meetings with project members;
- Lead stakeholder convening components of the project;
- Coordinate learnings, collaborations, and efficiencies across the project;
- Ensure local work plans align with the project goals and strategies;
- Support Director in developing project strategy;
- Assist with funder(s) briefings, meetings, and requests;
- Ensure on-time completion of project deliverables;
- Assess and report to Director progress toward meeting objectives and milestones as planned;
- Budget management and materials development; and
- Contribute to project strategy as appropriate.
Special Projects:
- Undertake complex research and organizational projects, as requested by the Director.
- At least five years of experience in project management, preferably related to sustainability, city planning, city-level policymaking, food, or waste;
- Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills;
- Strong facility with spreadsheets and databases;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Mastery of Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook;
- Proven record of managing resources and task schedules to meet tight project deadlines;
- Ability to prioritize, manage, and follow through on multiple, complex tasks with a high degree of autonomy and accuracy;
- Ability to organize and manage internal and external meetings and events;
- Proven record of coordinating with team members to meet project requirements, deadlines, and schedules on a large project;
