We are looking for a motivated and visionary leader to help drive membership for a new YMCA.  This is a great opportunity for a candidate looking to lead the way and help open our brand new 60,000 square foot facility in Westlake Village, CA.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Membership Director will be playing a large role in opening our new YMCA, which is set to open Spring of 2019 in Westlake Village, CA.  The goal is 1500 units prior to opening the new facility!  This person will directs all aspects of membership for the branch including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and supervision of assigned staff.  This person will develop, plan and implement new procedures and methods to achieve strategic goals.  In addition, this person is going to recruit, hire, train and develop a membership team.  This person will be a liaison to committee(s) and advisory board(s) and live our core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.  Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
  • Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances
  • Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff.  Coordinates with the business office as necessary on financial transactions.
  • Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
  • Leads assigned aspects of the fund-raising campaign.
  • Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency
  • Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fundraising
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Extensive knowledge of technology to include the Microsoft Office Suite, operations database and social media
  • CPR, First Aid and AED certifications must be kept up to date
  • Criminal Record Clearance
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $46,000.00 - $65,000.00
