The Benefits and Rewards Specialist is responsible for performing the compensation and benefits functions to a professional level as they work closely with the National Director covering the function at AIUSA. This position carries out responsibilities for all staff members, street-canvassing personnel, and includes the following functional areas: HRIS, payroll and compensation management, benefits administration, onboarding of new hires, policy implementation, and employment law compliance.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages the bi-weekly PayCom payroll process for the street canvassing employee group.
  • Coordinates benefits eligibility and enrollment for street canvass group.
  • Helps resolve payroll issues or items related to compensation (hours, wages).
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Maintains human resources information system records and compiles reports using the payroll portal.
  • Represents the organization for any unemployment claims.
  • Facilitates or provides certain HR training including new hire orientation and manages the on-boarding program.
  • Partners with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations.
  • Participates in staff and departmental meetings and helps in developing department procedures.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the services performed.
  • May train or assign tasks to and works collaboratively with HR assistants and/or interns.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, finance or a related field.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years human resources generalist experience and/or sufficient relevant work experience.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred but not necessary.

Skills Needed:

  • Knowledge of payroll administration
  • Familiarity with components of payroll taxes and their operation
  • Prior use of multi-state payroll software
  • Knowledge of benefits administration
  • Knowledge of employment law and compliance
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel proficiency is mandatory
