As a member of the branch management team, the Aquatics Director will develop, organize, administer and evaluate programs which include but are not limited to:  open swim, swimming lessons; special and family events, aqua fitness classes, lifeguard training and CPR/AED/First Aid training.  This position is responsible for all aspects of swimming pool operations and scheduling. The Aquatics Director must support and participate in on-going association efforts to enhance the Aquatics programs and services.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises Aquatics program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with peers.
  • Recruits, interviews, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations. Keeps abreast of local, state, and national innovations and trends in the fields of aquatics, youth, and family including familiarity with the Illinois Beach and Bathing Code. Monitors operations to adhere to standards.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid, CPR, AED & Oxygen trainings.
  • Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices 
  • and meets.
  • Coordinates the marketing and distribution of Aquatics program information.
  • Develops and monitors annual program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation 
  • in program.
  • Maintains an environment of safety as top priority at all times
  • Teaches and demonstrates the YMCA mission, values, and character development in all associations with staff, members, program participants, volunteers, and the community.
  • Conducts, at a minimum, monthly in-service staff training events. Document staff attendance and require 100% participation.
  • Ensures planning and implementation of Lifeguard audit and drill programs.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work experience and training
Skills/Experience: 
  • Ability to comfortably lead, train and develop a staff team. The ideal candidate will have previous supervisory experience in an Aquatics or Program environment
  • Minimum age 21
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $30,000.00 - $36,000.00
