This position is responsible for planning, implementing, directing, and supervising a complete and diversified educational, social and recreational program and activities for the members in accordance with the mission of the Alfond Youth Center and the State of Maine Licensing regulations. The Child & Youth Development Director will have direct supervision of the Child Care Coordinator, Preschool Coordinator, AYC mentoring programs, all Unit Directors, and the Kids Kitchen.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Holds the vision of the Alfond Youth Center mission and the After School Program before the staff and the community.
- Formulate goals and objectives and submit them to the CEO for review and approval.
- Coordinate with CEO/ Finance Director to implement all budgetary, grant, staff, and community expectations.
- Direct and operate programs and services in accordance with the standards, philosophies, and policies of the State of Maine childcare licensing guidelines within budget limitations.
- Coordinates and communicates with staff all activities/efforts of the AYC After School Program.
- Liaison between the Alfond Youth Center and local school systems in regards to student transcripts and teaching needs.
- Oversee AOD system and records of time cards for hourly employees in child care departments.
- Oversee, implement and help organize all after-school programming special events.
- Meets with curriculum leaders weekly to discuss activities, trends, needs and outcomes.
- Meets with direct reports bi-weekly.
- Maintain records and appropriate paperwork for all third parties billing agencies. Work with front office on billing as needed.
- Planning, implementing, and supervising summer programs and activities.
- Promotes within the community the activities and benefits to children of attending the After School program - work with marketing staff.
- Work with staff to problem solve challenging situations
- Assist in guiding any member with behavior, attitude, or emotional problems.
- Submit for approval to purchase, supplies and equipment for programs, within budget limitations
- Maintain social and recreational facilities and equipment, recommending needed repairs and improvements to the CEO.
- Attend Board meetings when required
- Assist in related fund raising for the organization.
- Keep accurate and adequate records of attendance, participation, and progress of the After School Program and its participants.
- Research, apply for and manage grants specific to the program.
- Submit reports and information as required, by funding sources and outcomes of grant expectations.
- Continue personal professional growth by participating in related courses, institutes, and workshops approved by the CEO/Human Resources Director and authorized by the Board of Directors.
- Model appropriate practice for all staff with children, other staff, families and community.
- Understand and support the Alfond Youth Center mission, core beliefs, and workplace statement.
- Become familiar with the Alfond Youth Center’s Safety Committee and help ensure a healthy and safe working environment.
Educational Background:
Master’s degree in Education or other related field
Skills/Experience:
- 3-5 years’ experience in education administration
- Experience with training, supervision and scheduling of large staff.
- General knowledge of maintaining facilities and equipment.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to pass State Bureau of Investigation, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Motor Vehicle, Fraud and Sex Offender Registry background checks.
Education Requirements:
- Minimum of 3-5 years related experience in child care, group social work, recreational field, social education field, outdoor or camp programs
- CPR and First Aid certification
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00
