The Director of Marketing Finance and Operations will provide overall financial and strategic direction and leadership for Global Marketing functions, one of the Conservancy’s most complex business units, with a staff of over 200. The Director V will be responsible for Finance, Human Resources, Facilities, Information Systems, Office Management and/or Safety. The executive leadership role provides guidance and counsel to the CMO and senior leadership on financial and business strategy, talent management, resource alignment, and organizational design decisions. She/he will establish a vision for areas of responsibility, identify key challenges, and deliver targeted recommendations and outcomes. Management through relationship, collaboration and persuasive communication is a key ingredient for success.
The Director of Finance and Operations will be accountable for meeting the long and short-range strategic financial and business priorities of the Global Marketing team. He/she will partner with the CMO, Finance, HR, Membership, Marketing Leadership and other Organizational units on creating and managing strategic plans and the related financial models and budget tracking. They will be responsible for administrative tasks related to Human Resources, Information Systems, Finance, and Facilities including preparing reports and forecasts, and monitoring and preparing budgets. She/he will work to establish and monitor departmental KPI’s and success metrics. The Director will participate in the formulation and evaluation of cross-departmental policies and standards and is the primary owner for business processes and guidelines related to the teams under their supervision. They will be responsible for the financial management and fiscal sustainability of the division. They will facilitate and lead strategic dialogues with senior-level stakeholders, identify key issues, requirements, operating efficiencies to develop actionable solutions. They will provide consultation, guidance, and oversee training programs related to the Business Unit. The candidate must be experienced in managing diverse and complex systems with a goal of collaboration and integration. They will manage priority vendor relationships. The Director will work closely with and manage relations with key stakeholders including senior management, internal Marketing teams, and outside service providers to achieve program goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Manage a minimum of 6 professional staff, including Finance strategy & tracking, HR recruitment & onboarding, marketing team culture & development, contract & budget management.
- Develop overall financial strategies and recommendations that support the strategic objectives of Global Marketing and the Organization.
- Lead strategic & departmental initiatives through collaboration with senior-level stakeholders to deliver organizational and departmental strategic goals
- Monitor, forecast and provide timely and accurate financial reports and analysis to CMO, CFO, Departmental leads and Senior Management.
- Oversee general accounting duties, to include: basic journal entries for transfers, loans, accruals, deferred revenue and expense corrections.
- Review and monitor income statement and balance sheet (including pledges) items at month and year-end close;
- Ensure revenue, expenses and net assets are managed to reflect donor intent, including working with cross-functional teams to perform revenue allocation
- Oversee day to day financial activities such as purchasing, invoicing, negotiating, and contracting with vendors
- Direct and participate in negotiations that include complex, high profile financial models
- Ensure functional program meets commitments and is managed for ethical compliance with Conservancy policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements;
- Maintain extreme levels of confidentiality professional integrity with highly-confidential information
- Occasional travel is required
- 9 years related experience or equivalent combination, including 3 years managing operations functions and experience working at a senior level;
- Financial/accounting experience;
- Experience in developing and presenting business strategy, marketing and financial plans
- Experience generating financial reports and analyzing and interpreting data;
- Experience developing and administering departmental budget or equivalent;
- Experience conceiving, developing, and managing multiple projects and strategic goals
- Management experience of a large multidisciplinary team, including planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities;
- Experience working in a large, complex organization
- Experience, coursework, or other training in principles, practices, and procedures of relevant field.
