350.org is looking for an experienced, skilled and strategic short-term California Digital Campaigner. We’re working with partners to mobilize people across the globe this September for Rise for Climate Action. As California hosts the Global Climate Action Summit (GCAS) in San Francisco Sept 12-14th, we are working with dozens of partner organizations for distributed demonstrations around the world, and a large-scale anchor demonstration in San Francisco on Sept 8th.
The Digital Campaigner will work with the 350.org staff, the People’s Climate Movement, partner organizations, 350-affiliated network groups, and volunteers to help mobilize tens-of-thousands of people in California. The ideal candidate will be a web-savvy strategic thinker, an experienced digital campaigner, has communications experience, is a solid project manager, and a talented writer in English.
- Work with 350.org staff to engage our California base and network to maximize turnout for Rise For Climate Action and lead-up events throughout the term. Includes website management, email (Drafting, targeting etc), social media, and storytelling, including supporting video production and distribution
- Work with coalition partners and allied efforts to coordinate and execute digital strategies (website, email, social media, partner agreements, data sharing etc)
- Support grassroots local affiliates with amplification, promotion, training, coaching, systems creation etc
- Create and/or support recruitment infrastructure for buses and mass transportation, and support bus captains to do recruitment
- Join in-person meetings (primarily San Francisco area) as-needed
- Some potential travel (as-needed) across the state
- Help convene working groups and committees focused on digital strategies including partner calls, etc.
- Support live coverage of the San Francisco action including coordinating live streaming, photography, and video
- 2-5 years of experience in digital campaigning in support of movement-building activities.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with fluency in English. Ability to write for a variety of audiences and platforms.
- Strategic campaign development expertise and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized, and able to manage multiple projects at once without sacrificing quality.
- A resilient and flexible team player who is a fast learner, can handle a fast paced, high pressure, highly collaborative team culture.
- Experience with intersectional advocacy work on issues of race, class, and gender.
- Efficient time and workload management skills.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of and dedication to the climate movement.
- A nuanced understanding of the U.S. political landscape with an inclination to shake things up.
- Experience with developing online tools for decentralized campaigning
- Experience at the intersection of online and offline organizing, navigating traditional communications and digital work, mobilization, and direct action.
- Experience using the online platforms employed by the digital team, including: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Action Kit, Action Network, and WordPress.
- Connections to progressive political spaces including volunteer and professional networks.
- Comfort working with colleagues in multiple time-zones via slack, conference calls, and other online tools.
- Proven ability to maintain a healthy work/life balance in fast-paced, high pressure working environments.
Compensation: Salaried,$4,000-$5,000 per month depending on experience. Does not include benefits.
- Full-time, commencing as soon as possible, ending on September 30th 2018. (possibility of extension to-be-determined).
