An associate working as part of a Genomics/Bioinformatics team and directly with the scientific functional groups across the CFFT lab on their projects related to data analysis, experimental design, and interpretation. Works closely with the Head of Bioinformatics on computational capabilities, databases, software tools and solutions as required for organizing, analyzing, and integrating internal experimental data and public datasets. Understands well the biology application domain, proficient in bioinformatics tools, databases, general and numerical algorithms, and statistics. Capable of working independently and as a part of a team.
- Independently, or as part of a team, conduct computational analysis of experimental data.
- Identify and apply relevant existing software tools and solutions.
- Develop and maintain computational solutions, scripts, software tools, and computational pipelines.
- Analyze genomic and transcriptomic datasets obtained with Next Generation Sequencing technologies (short-read, long-read, bulk and single cell RNA).
- Participate in building up and maintaining databases/solutions for storing experimental data and analysis results and for data accessibility throughout the organization.
- Participate in group meetings for discussion of data analysis needs and suggested next steps.
- Prepare and present results at internal meetings.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in national Great Strides and related events organized by the Foundation to help people with CF.
- Experience with Next Generation sequencing technologies and large scale genomic/transcriptomic datasets preferred.
- Familiarity with general-purpose, numerical, and bioinformatics algorithms (combination of coursework and/or experience).
- Proven software development skills, proficiency in R and/or Python (including Python’s scientific libraries) preferred, shell scripting, familiarity with version control, Linux administration skills.
- Additional desirable skills: familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS or Google), familiarity with HTML/JavaScript and web application server technologies.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written).
- Handle multiple tasks, prioritize and keep organized to ensure timely and accurate work.
- Ability to concentrate on details.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports to Sr Scientist II, Head of Bioinformatics.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Commute to lab every workday.
- Once a year travel to scientific or technological meeting as necessary.
- Must have access to reliable means of transportation for travel to the lab on every workday.
- Use of computer required.
- Sitting, bending, reaching, and walking.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (not to exceed 50 lbs.) for set-up of lab equipment.
