The position reports to the Senior Director, Policy and Advocacy, to play a key role in developing and advancing the Foundation’s research, drug discovery and development policy agenda. The public policy specialist will serve as a subject matter expert on R&D policy issues, track and analyze relevant legislation and regulations, help shape the Foundation’s policy positions on these issues, and advocate for CFF’s policy priorities on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Serve as a subject matter expert on a variety of health and science policy issues including policies relating to the Food and Drug Administration, National Institutes of Health, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as subjects including biomedical research, drug development, antibiotic resistance and lung transplantation.
- Track and analyze legislation (both authorizing and appropriations), regulations and guidance documents to determine relevance to the CF research and drug development agenda.
- Draft comment letters, correspondence to Congress, materials for Foundation leadership testimony, and other documents that relate to CFF’s research and drug development policy agenda.
- Develop materials such as handouts, slide presentations, talking points and policy summaries to introduce and explain the Foundation’s policy agenda to CFF volunteers.
- Participate in grassroots advocacy events, including preparation of materials, training (online and in-person), and participating with volunteers in meetings with lawmakers and administration officials.
- Attend and monitor relevant Congressional hearings and briefings, agency meetings and workshops, and other events, and draft summaries for Foundation staff.
- Represent CFF on Capitol Hill, in meetings with federal agencies and in meetings with other stakeholders about research and drug development and other public health issues.

Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a background in public policy, public health, social sciences, political science, or biological sciences.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Previous experience in monitoring and analyzing public policy.
- Demonstrated knowledge of legislative and political processes
- Familiarity with research and drug development issues preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.
