The Program Director is responsible for successful operation of YMCA program and camp departments.  S/he will develop, implement, and administer quality programs.  S/he is responsible for overall supervision and management of program and camp staff including all aspects of hiring, training and evaluation. As an employee of the Old Colony Y, s/he will be committed to providing excellence in service for all members, clients, volunteers and fellow employees. Through the efforts of the Program Director, members will receive professional, safe care in a well maintained and friendly environment. The Program Director will demonstrate character values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility at all times.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Program/Department Responsibilities:

  • Lead the program and camp teams to deliver the best possible programs, strong communication skills
  • Responsible for revenue associated with summer camp and program department
  •  Act as Camp Director including
    • Camp Licensing and understanding of all DPH regulations
    • Hiring, Supervising and Training all camp staff
    • Manage day to day operations of summer camp including transportation, health and safety, financials, and staff
    • Develop marketing and promotions plan to ensure camp growth and success
  • Develop sports programming and leagues for youth, teens and adults
  • Research, develop and implement new programming to increase revenue and depth of programming.
  • Outreach to wider community to develop recreation partnerships and services outside Y
  • Management and negotiation of recreation services and rental contracts
  • Develop summer and vacation camps, programs and/or clinics, and special events
  • Formulate and monitor related budget lines
  • Secure and appropriate supplies for all programs
  • Responsible for gym, and birthday party bookings, schedules, etc.
  • Be a member of the Management Team providing direction, goals, and branch vision to the team
  • Play an active leadership role in the branch’s Annual Campaign
  • Assist with branch training, be responsible for a segment of training
  • Supervise program and camp staff and coordinators through weekly meetings and monthly meeting

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, train and evaluate staff and volunteers following OCY standards and guidelines
  • Conduct staff training/development programs
  • Assume responsibilities of the other team members in their absence
  •  Approve payroll for all related personnel

Fiscal Responsibilities:

  • Ensure collection of payments according to OCY policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures such as petty cash, purchase orders, employee expense
  • Assist with the development of program budgets

Facility/Housekeeping Responsibility

  • Achieve the highest level of cleanliness by cleaning and/or inspecting all program areas
  • Responsible for inventory of program supplies and assets
  • Keep storage closets and sheds neat and safe for accessibility
  • Maintain equipment for Youth programs.  Repair or replace equipment when needed

Interdivisional/Community/Volunteer Responsibility

  • To actively participate and provide leadership for the Y’s Annual Campaign
  • To promote Y programs through public appearances and presentations
  • Be an active member of assigned affinity group(s)
Educational Background: 
B.S. degree in related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • Current CPR certificate and 1st Aid certificate
  • Proven supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of two years of related experience.
  • Budget experience helpful
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).
