Under the direction of the Youth & Adult Sports Director, and in accordance with the mission & purpose of the Ann Arbor YMCA, the Gymnastics Coordinator shall be responsible for the direction and coordination of all recreational and team gymnastics programs in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti and will be a positive point of contact for parents, participants, staff and volunteers. The Gymnastics Coordinator is responsible for recruitment, hiring, and training of all gymnastics instructors and the promotion of all gymnastics programs. This position also serves as the Program Director for the summer gymnastics camp program and serves as a member of the Summer Day Camp leadership team. The Gymnastics Coordinator will serve new and existing members to identify opportunities for connectedness within the department and supervise the service of program volunteers.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Program Development: 

  • Maintain high quality innovation, expansion and continuous improvement of gymnastics programs. Develop new camps & programs where children are safe, learning new skills, engaging in physical activity and having fun. 
  • Facilitate and oversee all practices in a safe, organized manner. Directly facilitate classes 24 hours/week.
  • Manage program registration; develop marketing materials to recruit program participants; plan special events as it relates to the gymnastics program.  
  • Oversee class registration and manage waitlists to ensure efficiency in scheduling. Communicate with parents, staff and volunteers in a timely manner. 
  • Provide oversight of the summer Gymnastics Camp programs and serve as a member of the Day Camp Leadership team in the promotion, coordination and delivery of the Day Camp program.  
  • Assist in delivery of Healthy Kids Day and other association events. 
  • Integrates Developmental Assets Framework into all related programs. 
  • Work with Communications/Donor Relations Director to develop and refine program brochures and all related releases and brochures as necessary. 

Healthy Living: 

  • Develop relationships with all members to provide pathways for involvement in gymnastics programs. 
  • Be an advocate for the Y’s cause through regular communication with Gymnastics program participants via a regular department newsletter, provide educational materials for families on healthy living and oversee member engagement opportunities in gymnastics programming. 
  • Integrate Healthy Eating initiatives into gymnastics programming. Provide regular HEPA related communications to families and program participants. 

Decision Making:

  • Supervise gymnastics programming at community locations. Use good judgment to ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants. 
  • Oversee summer gymnastics camp programming in Ann Arbor. Provide oversight to seasonal summer staff and be responsible for the safety of 30-40 participants at any given time. 
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records of staff certifications and licenses. 

Volunteer/Staff Development

  • Provide supervision of Team Coach, gymnastics instructors, and program volunteers. Recruit program staff and volunteers and lead staff & volunteer coach development training. Mentor and supervise program volunteers and 5-10-part time program staff. 
  • Responsible for the oversight of department payroll and timeclock administration. 
  • Under the supervision of the Youth & Adult Sports Director, this position shares responsibility for the hiring, training and supervision of seasonal day camp staff, as it relates to gymnastics camp programming. 
  • Assists in delivery and success of annual campaign.

Facility Management: 

  • Position requires medium physical effort to set up gymnastics equipment each day with the support of two other staff.
  • Under the supervision of the Youth & Adult Sports Director this position will develop and supervise the budgets for the Gymnastics school-year programs and day camps. Provides regular enrollment updates and fiscal reports to the Youth & Adult Sports Director.
  • Supervise facilities and maintain equipment in order to provide high quality facilities and programs. Monitor and order program equipment as necessary. 
  • Shared responsibility for member service and membership retention. This position provides a positive first point of contact for new members and suggests ways for families to become more connected to the YMCA. 
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Two (2) years of college completed in a related field is preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 18 months experience working with children ages 4-14 is required. 
  • Preferred candidate will have experience teaching Gymnastics, with a minimum of three years teaching/coaching experience. Experience coaching both compulsory and excel gymnastics routines is preferred. 
  • Must have working knowledge of current teaching practices and spotting techniques.
  • Experience in staff recruitment, training, scheduling and supervision both with paid staff and volunteers is preferred. 
  • Understanding of program development, staff and volunteer training and development is an advantage.  
  • Must possess USA Gymnastics membership and USAG Safety certification or the ability to obtain within six months of hire. 
  • Ability to teach at all levels including pre-school, beginner, intermediate and competitive team programs. 
  • Must be capable of using Microsoft Office software; Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Must be able to learn YMCA specific software within 30 days of employment.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications are required within 60 days of employment
  • Understanding of Y-USA Healthy Eating and Physical Activity initiative is preferred.
  • Multi-lingual ability is preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $14.00 - $15.00
