The Y is hiring a Payroll/HR Specialist to provide detail-oriented support to the Human Resources Department. Duties include bi-weekly payroll processing and administration for 450-600 employees, the bi-weekly processing of work-study employees, and daily administrative and clerical HR functions.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible payroll compliance and best business practices in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations, company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for securely maintaining accurate employee information in payroll database
  • Reconciles payroll transactions to Payroll Registers each pay cycle.
  • Utilizes HRIS system to create and run ad-hoc reports as needed; provides data for legally required Federal and State requests for payroll data.
  • Primary point of contact for payroll matters, pay compliance, and minimum wage compliance.
  • Calculates and enters benefit begin and end dates; works with Benefits Administrator to ensure correct benefit deductions withholdings.
  • Handles the calculation, set-up, and response paperwork for employee garnishments and/or support orders.
  • Ensures paid time off balances are set up and managed within the payroll database.
  • Enters and manages deductions and deduction goals in payroll database.
  • Acts as a liaison with our payroll service provider, communicating regularly with the payroll service providers to resolve technical issues, payroll tax issues, direct deposit concerns and any other relevant client service issues.
  • Prepares earnings statements upon client’s request.
  • Process and distribute year end forms.
  • Cuts and posts manual checks when necessary
  • Ability to develop and maintain HR spreadsheets in Excel format
  • Maintain current knowledge of State and Federal wage laws relevant to wage and employment practices and compliance.
  • Documents all policies and procedures as related to areas of payroll compliance.
  • Regularly performs various audits to confirm wage compliance. Research and resolve any wage compliance concerns.
  • Monitor and recommend updates to company handbooks.
  • Manage hiring paperwork through our online paperwork system.
  • Assist with other HRIS systems
  • Works closely with all administrative and program departments
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources/Business Administration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience as a HR/Payroll Coordinator.
  • Experience using Ceridian Dayforce.
