Audubon Dakota seeks a dynamic Communications & Engagement Coordinator to join a growing regional team, serving over 5,000 members in the Dakotas region. The successful applicant will play a leadership role in the implementation of Audubon Dakota’s engagement and outreach strategies for the region, supporting and coordinating events and programs in the area of outreach/education connected to Audubon Dakota’s conservation programming related to Audubon’s Bird-Friendly Communities and Working Lands Initiatives. S/he will facilitate greatly in the development and implementation of these various programs by building and sustaining strong professional relationships with partners and providing technical/administrative assistance.
To promote Audubon Dakota projects throughout North/South Dakota, s/he will be expected to update and manage social media and website platforms to bolster Audubon’s online presence. The successful candidate will support Audubon Dakota’s science and land management by helping with coordination and implementation of various Audubon-led initiatives, as the engagement and communications enterprise will be fully integrated into Audubon Dakota’s overall conservation and development program.
- Develop and implement Bird-Friendly Communities Strategy for Dakotas program, aligning and integrating broad conservation goals into strategy.
- Manage Conservation, Outreach, and Marketing internship program, including recruitment and supervision of interns.
- Coordinate and manage education and habitat restoration events. This includes developing and coordinating a network of Audubon volunteer program.
- Develop and lead educational programs related to Audubon Dakota’s projects. This includes creating information on native prairie, local wildlife, and conservation in general for school groups and at community events.
- Develop outreach opportunities to continually engage local Audubon and community members year-round.
- Act as liaison and general support for Audubon chapters in North and South Dakota.
- Act as liaison between Audubon Dakota and its Aveda Corporate partner affiliates across North Dakota, South Dakota, and western Minnesota.
- Grow and enhance Audubon’s social media presence on platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
- Create a wide range of communications materials for distribution across a variety of platforms and for diverse audiences, with the goal of building support for state program priorities; leveraging graphic design expertise where necessary.
- Manage content on state office website, blog and social media properties; working with staff to design, create, edit, and regularly update multimedia pages on the site; analyze website statistics.
- Participate in grant writing opportunities.
- In partnership with Office Manager, coordinate development of annual appeal and other direct appeal programs.
- Maintain and promote internal/external communication. Assist senior communications staff with coordination, execution and documentation of media events.
- Represent Audubon Dakota at various events.
- Experience in project management and coordination.
- Demonstrated time-management skills, attention to detail, and ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
- Experience in developing engaging print and online communications materials for a wide range of audiences.
- Must have strong writing and editing skills.
- Proactive, self-starter mentality to accomplish tasks with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with a wide range of digital platforms and programs, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word), Adobe In-Design and Photoshop, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
- Nature photography skills and editing capabilities, preferred.
- Must be willing to travel, as well as commit to some evening and weekend work as needed.
- Valid driver’s license required.
