The Alzheimer's Association Home Office seeks a dynamic individual to lead the development of Medical Science brand strategy and marketing communications. Oversight includes convening multiple cross-functional leaders to achieve consensus and alignment on strategy and development across all priority areas of the organization. The Association must increase its leadership and global science brand across all types of media, measurably increasing public and professional recognition of the Association, and supporting growth in revenue, and expanded use of Association resources as defined by the long-range strategic plan.
This position is based in Chicago, IL and reports to the Chief Marketing Officer.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develops and implements a strategic and effective brand communications program that positions the Alzheimer's Association as the global leader in medical science research. Contributes to significant increases in concern and awareness goals.
- Works with stakeholders and subject matter experts to lead team to develop core content (medical science. disease, support, policy, program, and marketing) to be leveraged across platforms, channels, and divisions and review all materials for brand and messaging compliance
- Works with internal and external partners to elevate the Association voice to external audiences through creative opportunities or communications channels.
- Participates as key leadership member of the constituent relations team.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field; Master's preferred
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum 7 -10 years' progressive experience in science marketing communications, management for corporation, healthcare organization, or agency with related clients
- Minimum 3 years' experience identifying, training, coaching and supporting media spokespersons
- Minimum 5 years' experience overseeing brand positioning, content development for multiple platforms and channels
- At least 3 years' supervisory experience with effective leadership skills to inspire others to take initiative
- Experience managing budgets and outside consultants
- Ability to translate complex concepts, such as scientific research or healthcare system components, into information understandable to lay audiences
- Ability to collaborate well with internal and external groups as part of a major integrated marketing program
- Demonstrated success developing organizational, health, and mission content to meet needs of end-users and stakeholders; excellent writing and editing skills to ensure high-quality content
- Demonstrated experience in all aspects of branding, media relations, including digital, and use of databases
- Proven ability to identify story opportunities and emerging issues and to generate winning strategies and compelling angles that create news and build brand recognition
- Proven ability to plan, execute and measure impact of strategic public relations program, preferably in relation to healthcare consumer issues and advocacy
- Proven ability to create relevant and impactful organizational messaging
- Demonstrated ability see broader marketing communications picture and execute as appropriate to raise concern and awareness
- Possessed of high ethical standards, integrity, and ability to keep commitments
- Ability to deal with complexity and meet multiple deadlines with strong orientation to achieving goals and getting desired results ; makes things happen under pressure with an even temper, and good humor
- Adaptable and flexible, able to respond quickly to urgent or emerging needs or opportunities, while still maintaining focus on overall goals; ability to manage multiple staff and activities simultaneously, effectively and quickly
- Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally up to 40%, including frequently during some periods
- Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for the job
