The Conservation and GIS Assistant supports all aspects of New Hampshire Chapter programs, including: contributes to the management and maintenance of spatial and information databases; provides GIS and cartographic services; and provides project-based support such as background research, grants support, data processing and analysis, data quality control, and reporting.
The Conservation and GIS Assistant supports conservation projects and strategy development led by the GIS & Conservation Project Manager, Director of Conservation, and other relevant TNC staff. S/he maintains, builds, and processes spatial and relational datasets, and performs data analysis, map production, and reporting. S/he supports the maintenance of the chapter’s GIS and infrastructure, and provides technical assistance to chapter GIS users.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- May supervise interns and/or volunteers.
- May negotiate and contract with vendors.
- May help develop work plans and project budgets.
- Operates a GIS to perform data management, data upkeep, data analysis, model and workflow development, and map creation and updates.
- Supports development of grant applications, project reports, and outreach products.
- Assist in the organization of programmatic and project meetings, prepare meeting minutes and conduct follow-up activities.
- Ensures integrity of both data collection and management relating to conservation projects.
- Works independently and makes decisions based on experience and judgment.
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 2 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience managing, maintaining and populating databases and manual files.
- Experience producing maps, reports, and operating GIS software.
- Experience analyzing, building, populating and producing reports from databases.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and web browsers.
- Experience working as part of a dynamic team.
- Experience completing tasks independently within assigned time frames.
- Experience with managing multiple projects.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-3 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.
- Experience with Esri software (ArcGIS 10 or later, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).
- Experience with mobile data collection application(s).
- Managing time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering quality results.
- Managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources.
- Communicates clearly via written, spoken and graphical means in English.
