Together with staff and volunteers, this intern supports AARP MN’s efforts to engage Minnesotans age 50+, especially AARP members, in our mission to enhance the quality of life for all as we age.  This paid internship position focuses on achieving our public policy and advocacy objectives leading up to the State Legislative Session through providing vital support with coordination, research, issue tracking, member and volunteer engagement/organizing efforts.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assist in planning and execution of advocacy and organizing strategies.
  • Assist in executing voter engagement strategies.
  • Track identified key issues.
  • Conduct research on identified issues, synthesize and report on findings.
  • Assist with writing and deploying policy-related communications to volunteers and e-activists.
  • Support volunteers and e-activists with “calls to action” to their own legislators and highlighting our priority issues in their own communities – assist with creating message framework, providing contextual information and coaching as needed.
  • Schedule and/or attend meetings as assigned.
  • Provide operational and administrative support for staff engaged in campaign planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be considered undergraduate juniors or seniors.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Interest in public policy research and advocacy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous experience related to Public Policy.
  • Previous administrative office experience.
  • Previous experience working/volunteering on issues related to or directly with the 50+ population
