The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) PH&W Research and Program Initiatives Specialist will serve as a vehicle to analyze, research, author, and present content that will enhance and validate the work of the PH&W program. Authorship of original content will be submitted for publication to peer-reviewed journals with research findings presented at appropriately themed professional conferences. Research findings will help to better conscript future PH&W program design.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the executive team, program leadership team, constituents, and staff
- Develop and manage a programmatic approach to Physical Health & Wellness across WWP programs
- Assist director with development and implementation of special projects as well as operational and strategic initiatives
- Lead and research analytical initiatives, up to and including recommendations that support and maintain the PH&W team’s metrics, expense, and budgetary controls
- Author and submit PH&W research content to professional, peer-reviewed journals
- Present PH&W research content at appropriately themed conferences
- Act as a liaison to Metrics team to ensure efficiencies and best practices
- Serve as the point of contact for managing vendors to ensure the appropriate oversight and consistency
- Work closely with the WWP legal team regarding research data contracts and permissions
- Extensive travel up to 50%
- Other duties as assigned
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree required, in exercise science or similar health management field of study; Masters preferred
Skills/Experience:
- Must possess competencies related to working with a variety of business disciplines including legal, finance/accounting and records management
- Must demonstrate excellent research writing and oral presentations skills, along with the ability to interact with a variety of professional disciplines, both internal and external to WWP, including attorneys, and accounting/finance
- Ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful, mature, and flexible manner, handling sensitive matters with diplomacy, empathy, and confidentiality especially with attorneys, and finance and accounting professionals
- High energy, self-motivated, detail oriented, and supportive individual able to take initiative, multi-task, work well under pressure, and complete required assignments in a timely fashion
- Able to work effectively in an environment requiring independent and creative efforts and maintain a flexible work schedule
- Ability to establish professional relationships for the purposes of creating a diverse network of resources in order to support the execution of the PH&W team
- Advanced knowledge of administrative procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other standard office procedures and terminology
- Basic understanding of budgeting, forecasting, planning, and project management
- Highly motivated, passionate, and creative team player
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to troubleshoot, identify viable options and problem-solve using excellent reasoning abilities and demonstrating sound judgment
- Ability to cultivate and expand relationships with various partners
- Skill and ease in public and service as a representative for the organization
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs – Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Education & Experience Requirements
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in professional research writing, publishing, and presenting required
- Must be able to travel between 25% - 50% including overnight travel
