The Membership Sales Director has primary responsibility for the overall organization, administration, development, marketing, supervision and implementation of YMCA membership services, recruitment and retention of members.  Additional responsibilities include providing direct leadership and supervision to the front desk of the YMCA.  This position reports to the Senior Program Director or Operations Director. Ability to train and supervise staff, delegate appropriate responsibilities to staff in order to accomplish necessary duties, work as an integral member of a management team, and have the ability to successfully handle a variety of functions at the same time.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide excellent member service by exceeding member expectations.
  • Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand individual’s goals and interests, and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
  • Recognize and promote member service and retention as the primary responsibility of all staff.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive membership recruitment, marketing and retention plans.
  • Provide for appropriate facility coverage.
  • Coordinate the overall operations of the YMCA front desk.
  • Work with the technical support and program staff for registration of membership and programs.
  • Develop and implement quality standards and policies for the front desk operations.
  • Create feedback mechanisms for program directors.
  • Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals.
  • Attend all staff functions, including annual All-Staff Conference and Quarterly Leadership Meetings.
  • Employ, supervise, schedule and evaluate all member service staff to insure the highest standard of service. Provide training and direct leadership to all assigned staff in procedures, policies, philosophies and character development of the YMCA.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings with all assigned staff.
  • Maintain expenditures within established budget guidelines, while completing all budget reports, projections, statistics and drafts in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain all program equipment in an appropriate manner.
  • Remain current in required and voluntary training in order to promote growth of mind and spirit and character values for all.
  •  Recruit and coordinate volunteers for programs and fundraising 
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field, or 3 years appropriate experience in marketing and/or sales.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must possess excellent skills in staff supervision and quality standards.
  • Must have a concern for detail and accuracy and have the ability to delegate responsibility.
  • Understand the relationship of the general public to the association, of staff to volunteer, and of staff to staff, and be able to effectively enhance and cultivate those relationships.
  • Must be highly motivated and possess a positive attitude towards the YMCA, character development and our mission.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children alike.
