At the YMCA of Greater Nashua, there's a motto- "whatever you're thinking, think bigger!"  We are looking for a dynamic individual to work alongside the Aquatics Director to support the important work of ensuring a safe aquatic environment while providing quality and impactful swim lessons.  If you're currently working in aquatics as a lifeguard supervisor or head lifeguard with experience teaching, and have dreamed of taking the next step, this position is for you!  

The Nashua Y sees over 1,000 members and swim lesson participants daily.  With over 600 children and adults enrolled in our swim program, and 140+ kids on our swim team, we are an action packed pool.  The state of the art Aquatic Center features a 6 lane lap pool with attached family pool and water slide.  As the Assistant Aquatics Director, you'll be an important part of the action.  We are excited to welcome a new addition to our team and help you develop as a professional in the Y movement!

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises the day to day operations of the Nashua aquatics facility.
  • Directly oversees the creation of the guard schedule to ensure that proper ratios are being met and the needs of Y program groups are being met Directly oversees the lifeguard team, ensuring the pool is supported with an appropriate lifeguard ratio to maintain safety at all times, and more than adequate supervision is provided to all pool activities.
  • Actively involved in the our swim lesson program to assist Aquatics Director with assuring the highest quality of lessons. 
  • Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, responsible for planning and staffing the lifeguard and swim instructor schedule. 
  • Plans and organizes the pool schedule and assures that pool space is appropriately allocated to meet the needs of Y programs as well as general member use. 
  • Assist the Aquatics Director to recruit, hire, train and evaluate new lifeguards and swim instructors to assure that they have all the resources needed to correctly preform all expected tasks.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Actively assists the Aquatics Director with day to day duties.
  • Assist with the planning and promotion of the Annual Campaign, supporting the fundraising goal for the department.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to 
  • all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
  • Work with Aquatics Safety Specialist to regularly drill and audit the aquatics staff, ensuring a rescue ready team at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two years related experience; for example, supervisor or head lifeguard.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard or American Red Cross Lifeguard, LGI preferred.
  • Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor preferred along swim instruction experience.
  • Current CPO or POOL (Pool Operation On Location) required within the first 90 days of hire. 
  • Ability to lead others and to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to make sound judgement and decision making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively- verbally and in written form—with members, staff and volunteers
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $15.00
