The Aquatics Coordinator is primarily responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, directing, budgeting and evaluating those programs within his/her program area in accordance with the mission, purposes and polices of the association. Additional responsibilities include: orientating, training and supervising all staff, paid and volunteer, related to his/her area of responsibility. This position will act on behalf of the Director of Aquatics and Competitive Swimming in their absence, and, at all times, shall work within the guidelines of the aquatic policies.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Assist in recruitment, training, development, and evaluation of aquatic staff.
- Ensures records of staff certification are current and complete.
- Provide 15-20 hours per week of direct service as a lifeguard and/or swim instructor.
- Be accountable for coverage of all assigned lifeguard and swim instructor shifts.
- Teach and/or guard in the absence of a scheduled lifeguard or swim instructor as necessary. Be a part of the on-call schedule as needed.
- Coordinate substitute procedures for staff; record all changes and maintain up-to-date staff schedule.
- Assist with leadership at all lifeguard/swim instructor in-service trainings and meetings including evaluations of swim instructors.
- Supervise aquatic staff in the absence of the Director of Aquatics & Competitive Swimming.
- Inspect and ensure high standards of maintenance, cleanliness, and repair of aquatic equipment and supplies, including first aid supplies.
- Coordinate and schedule swim lessons including group and private lessons.
- Uphold and exemplify high standards of customer service.
- Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement the daily activities of aquatics programs, and any assigned programs.
- Recruits, selects, schedules, motivates, evaluates and trains staff and volunteers.
- Recommends policies and procedures for assigned programs.
- Evaluates existing and proposed programs.
- Coordinates special events and facility use.
- Answer questions and explains aquatics programs to the public, including answering emails, voicemails, and in-person inquires.
- Gathers information and prepares reports as directed.
- Participates on at least one committee within the YMCA or community.
- Create and run on Aquatic Safety & Awareness event per year.
- Participate in and/or volunteer for at least one Community Support Campaign event per year.
- All other duties as assigned by the Director of Aquatics & Competitive Swimming, Senior Director of Youth Development, CEO, and/or Manager on Duty.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or a related field preferred
Skills/Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working in the Aquatics field
- Current Lifeguarding Certification and CPR/AED Certifications required
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification, Pool Operator Certification, Lifeguard Management Certification within 6 months of hire
- Good communication skills; Leadership skills are imperative
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all aspects of work with the YMCA
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $30,000.00 - $33,000.00
