The Web Product Manager will oversee the growth and strategic effectiveness of Audubon’s web presence (Audubon.org, and its network of 60+ state office and nature center sites). Reporting to the VP of Digital Products and working closely with the Editor/Site Director, the Web Product Manager will ensure that Audubon’s web presence is effectively engaging both existing and new audiences.
The role requires a mix of excellent digital marketing instincts, solid project management skills, an intuitive sense for user experience, and fluency in the tools of the modern web. A deep understanding of Audubon’s digital audiences, gained via research and testing, will form a key foundation of the Web Product Manager’s work.
- Drive Audubon’s efforts to optimize Audubon.org for effective engagement, with specific goals around lead generation and conversion rates, working in close collaboration with Audubon’s digital fundraising, advocacy, and marketing teams
- Partner with cross-organizational stakeholders to understand product objectives and develop effective product strategies
- Develop a deep understanding of Audubon’s unique content offerings, and adapt web products to best deliver and leverage that content for user engagement
- Work as the point person for technical and design consultants to scope, request, and implement new iterations and features for the website
- Plan and execute effective A/B and other audience tests to optimize for conversion
- Produce product concepts, roadmaps, and functional specifications documentation
- Effectively manage a budget to align priorities, resources and timelines across Audubon’s web properties
- Integrate analytics into all major product decisions, identifying valuable audience segments and funnels and adapting web products to maximize engagement
- Maintain working knowledge of developments and trends in software and apply them back into Audubon’s work
- 5-7 years of experience building and managing web products, with an emphasis on user engagement
- Demonstrated success in executing online marketing, fundraising, or advocacy strategies
- Expertise in digital production technologies and content management systems (with Drupal experience a strong plus)
- Comfort with and knowledge of email marketing and CRM platforms (experience with NGP VAN’s EveryAction a plus)
- Strong detail-oriented execution skills, and the ability to lead teams on the ground to move projects from conception to completion
- Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to understand and apply product needs and requirements from a diverse set of organizational stakeholders, and to communicate effectively with non-technical collaborators
- Fluency in the language and processes of web development, especially Drupal development, and the ability to work side by side with engineers to ensure product quality from the ground up
- Fluency in or high comfort level working with the programming languages of the modern web: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, web services & APIs, etc
- The ability to manage and maintain healthy vendor relationships, and the ability to seek and evaluate new high-quality vendors to supplement internal staff on a project-by-project basis
- Curiosity to stay on the cusp of software and product trends in the greater industry beyond non-profits
- Knowledge of and interest in conservation and bird-related issues a plus!
