The Director of Communications and Community Engagement (DCCE) implements focused communication, community outreach, and media tactics that facilitate comprehension, adoption, and advancement of The Nature Conservancy’s goals and objectives in the Adirondacks and beyond. The position reports to the Adirondacks Chapter Director with a dotted line to the Senior Director of Marketing for the New York Division and will be part of the larger NY marketing communications team for the North America region.
The DCCE contributes to developing and implementing communications and marketing strategies to achieve our conservation goals. The DCCE works closely with the Chapter Director and conservation and philanthropy staff in the Adirondacks and the New York Division, to produce impactful communication materials that describe our work, uphold our values, and reduce reputational and other types of risk as well as engages and serves as a liaison to community partners and stakeholders. The DCCE is a member of the New York marketing and communications team and involves and engages New York Division and Nature Conservancy World Office staff, keeping them apprised of interactions, issues or concerns when appropriate and understands and complies with all the Conservancy’s SOPS relating to marketing materials, media relations, etc. The DCCE is responsible for implementing and managing all communication tactics as outlined in approved strategies and plans and producing and managing marketing/communications budgets. The DCCE helps facilitate ongoing communication between all parts of the globally dispersed marketing division as well as internal and external stakeholders and identifies communication needs and opportunities within purview. The DCCE employs a variety of tactics to communicate goals, objectives, and mission including: developing speeches, key messages, and talking points as needed, print communication materials such as op-eds, news releases, fact sheets, web articles, reports, etc., and digital materials such as social media content, videos, websites, etc. This position will actively identify target audiences and cultivate media contacts on a local and national level and develop/foster relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders.

- Serves as team lead on assigned communication/marketing initiatives.
- Resolves issues independently within program area.
- Acts independently within program goals.
- May supervise staff and oversee work of office volunteers or interns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum 5 years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with current communication technologies and brand marketing.
- Experience with writing, editing, and proofreading.
- Experience presenting to and communicating with different audiences.
- Experience cultivating and managing stakeholder relationships.
- Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects and timelines.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience implementing and measuring effectiveness of communication and engagement plans/strategies.
- Experience developing media relations networks.
- Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in relevant discipline.
- Knowledge/experience in the field of conservation or natural resource protection.
- Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
- Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
