Human Rights Watch is seeking an Associate to provide administrative assistance to the Children’s Rights Division. The Children’s Rights Division focuses on issues affecting children around the world including child labor, armed conflict, migration, and juvenile justice. The Associate reports to the deputy director of the Children’s Rights Division and will support other Children’s Rights Division staff working in Europe and other offices. This full-time position will be based in either the London or Berlin office.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Providing day-to-day administrative support to Children’s Rights Division staff, such as scheduling, making travel arrangements, preparing for and taking minutes at meetings, creating and maintaining extensive filing and archiving systems, and responding to requests for information;
- Maintaining communication between Human Rights Watch offices, global staff, and external partners;
- Proofreading, formatting, and distributing documents such as news releases, reports, tables, charts, briefing papers, op-eds, publications and web content;
- Assisting with desk research, electronic clippings, wires, and translations;
- Assisting with events such as advisory committee matters, advocacy meetings, staff meetings, and other special events;
- Assisting with the recruitment and coordinating interns;
- Recording, tracking, and processing divisional finances; and
- Carrying out other duties as required.
Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in human rights, international relations, social science, or a related field is required.
Skills/Experience:
- A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is required.
Related Skills and Knowledge:
- Prior office/administration experience, unflagging attention to detail, flexibility and strong organizational skills are required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required; fluency in other languages (particularly French, Spanish, or Arabic) is highly desirable.
- Strong interest in international human rights is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously are required.
- Ability to make sound decisions consistent with job responsibilities is required.
- Ability to prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in multiple locations globally is required.
- Proficiency in computer packages including MS Office applications is required.
