Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Programs, the Aquatics Director will be responsible for the overall management and growth of the Aquatics Department and its offerings.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Provides excellent member service by exceeding member expectations and uses active listening skills with members in order to build relationships; understands the individual’s goals and interests and takes the initiative to assist in achievement of those goals.
- Develops, implements and oversees all aquatic programs, including, but not limited to, parent child, preschool, youth and adult swim lessons, lifeguard training, backyard pool program, aquatic leaders, pool rentals, masters and starfish swim teams, summer camp swim lessons and the Swim For Life program in August.
- Develops, manages and achieves the annual aquatic budget in ways plus-sided and sustained.
- Supervises and evaluates the Associate Aquatics Director.
- Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates all swim instructors and lifeguards.
- Schedules and staffs all aquatic programs.
- Works with the Marketing/Membership Director to update the program brochure and develop appropriate PR for programs.
- Develops new programs according to organizational and community needs.
- Delivers and maintains excellent parent, staff and community relationships.
- Participates in Branch & Association activities including special events & fund raising.
- Participates in trainings that benefit the position, the YMCA and self-development.
- Instructs classes and lifeguard training as needed.
- Acts locally, regionally and nationally as leader in the Movement regarding aquatics expertise.
- Prepares and submits bi-monthly payroll on a timely basis.
- Holds orientation meetings for the parent child and preschool swim lessons for new participants at the beginning of every session.
- Holds monthly in-service trainings and reviews for aquatic staff.
- Communicates effectively with the YWCA Aquatics Director (with whom we share pool scheduling).
- Performs other duties as necessary or assigned
Educational Background:
College graduate with strong organizational, computer, communication and problem-solving skills.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory and swim instruction experience to all levels and ages, along with prior lifeguard experience required.
- Current certifications in CPR/AED/First Aid/Lifeguard, O2 Administration and CPO required.
- Certification as a YMCA lifeguard training instructor highly desirable.
- Certification as a YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor trainer highly desirable.
- Experience supervising staff and developing a pool and class schedule, as well as the ability to develop and maintain good member and staff relationships absolutely necessary.
- Knowledge of budgeting and expense control required.
- Working knowledge of the Daxko computer program preferred.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00
