Under the direction of the Member Engagement Director, the Youth Development Coordinator will perform specific duties listed below, to the level agreed upon with his/her supervisor. The Youth Development Coordinator is responsible for delivering the highest level of Youth Department programming to YMCA of WNC members and program participants. The Youth Development Coordinator will be instrumental in leading, managing, and supervising Youth Department staff and assisting with the development, growth, implementation, and evaluation of all Youth Department programming. The Youth Development Coordinator is a highly visible representative of the YMCA mission, theme, and character development values. This position must perform program responsibilities in accordance with the policies, goals, values, and mission established by the YMCA of WNC.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Perform quality work within given deadlines and expectations with or without direct supervision
  • Interact professionally with other employees, members, program participants, volunteers, and other individuals within the community, always being mindful of the YMCA’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
  • Serve effectively as a team contributor on all assignments
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other appropriate individuals
  • Know and understand all youth related policies and procedures, including emergency action plans, and ensure that all these rules and procedures are always consistently enforced.

  • Assist with department marketing and communication by creating flyers, writing newsletter related information, etc. and adhere to YMCA of WNC movement revitalization marketing guidelines
  • Assist with Annual Campaign, as assigned. Mobilize members and community partners as volunteers in support of the YMCA cause.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required trainings, meetings, and program development activities.
  • Be a team player; maintain a positive and supportive attitude to all center staff and members.
  • Develop committed relationships! Sharing knowledge of programs, events, and resources with members throughout the facility and in the community when representing the YMCA of WNC
  • Answer phone calls and emails, comment cards, and member concerns, relating to programming in a timely manner.
  • Initiate communication with staff on topics such as upcoming trainings or staff development opportunities, YMCA events and happenings, policy or procedure changes and any other relevant information
  • Perform daily administrative work as required, such as filing, copying, and record keeping.
  • Display competence with the computer systems and record keeping such as incident reports, Daxko and other reports as required.
  • Monitor the cleaning, maintenance, functionality and operation of the Youth Department spaces; inventory department needs.
  • Assist supervisor with specific Human Resources functions including but not limited to, hiring duties, payroll, and employee documentation, recognition, training, meetings, evaluations, incident report follow-up, and emergency certification upkeep.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed, with supervisor guidance. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Assist supervisor with other administrative tasks such as ordering supplies, requesting department maintenance needs, and creating and communicating necessary monthly schedules.
  • Through coordination with supervisor, manage the Youth Department budget. Continuously display effective and efficient fiscal management.
  • Participate in association and/or community youth development programs, events, and initiatives as assigned.
  • Establish a safe environment with proper staff to participant ratios for all youth programs.
  • Develop relationships with collaborative agencies in the community, focusing on shared resources related to youth programs.
  • Assist in providing continuous leadership and supervision to staff.
    • Design, implement and evaluate curriculum and offer programs in/for the following areas:
    • Parents’ Night Out
  • Youth Development Center
  • Youth Lounge
  • Parent’s Morning Out
  • Family Nights
  • Camp Kiddos
  • Mobilize members and community partners as volunteers in support of the YMCA cause.
  • Communicate to supervisor any issues that arise.
  • Availability to work some nights and weekend shifts.
  • Work 40 hours per week in youth department, 15-20 of which will be in direct service as part of ratio.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by supervisor
Skills/Experience: 
  • Remain alert, with no lapses in consciousness.
  • Move to various locations in and around the entire facility.
  • Communicate verbally including clear and understandable speech and good voice projection.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older, preferably with previous supervision and child care experience.
  • Must attain within 90 days and maintain: Emergency Oxygen Administration (02), Automated External Defibrillation (AED), Blood Born Pathogens (BBP), and Emergency Action certifications; must maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Complete all trainings and orientations as assigned within 90 days.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $10.25 - $12.50
