The Chief Executive Officer reports to the Board of Directors and leads the BBBS agency to ensure that the mission, strategy, values, and goals of the organization are achieved.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Planning and Execution

  • Develop and drive the business plan for the organization within the context of our strategic direction.
  • Drive a collaborative process with the Board and staff.
  • Use performance metrics and quality indicators to guide operational decision-making.

Fund Development

  • Proactively ensure that the organization develops strong long-term relationships with large scale individual, foundation, and corporate donors/funders.
  • Personally build and maintain key relationships to ensure fund development objectives are achieved.
  • Maintain a strong focus on stakeholder engagement and fundraising, and the interdependence of these focus areas.

Business Operations/Office Management

  • Lead the creation of an annual $1.1 million budget in partnership with the Executive Committee of the Board.
  • Develop plans that maximize the financial strength of the agency without adversely affecting other criteria of success (e.g. customer satisfaction, quality of service).
  • Communicate the key performance levers and manage these measures.
  • Ensure the proper administration, maintenance, and upkeep of office building and grounds.
  • Manage the day to day operations of the program, ensuring child safety, mission alignment, and quality are paramount in all facets.

Human Resources Management

  • Manage a team of 15+ employees plus hundreds of volunteers and other stakeholders, assuring cohesion and effective coordination across teams.
  • Attract, retain, develop, and leverage staff talent.
  • Create an environment where staff is engaged and performing at high levels.
  • Institute and utilize an effective performance management system for all employees that includes annual objective setting and evaluation.

Program Impact

  • Ensure that comprehensive marketing strategies are developed to attract, engage, and mobilize significant numbers of volunteer mentors.
  • Ensure programmatic excellence and maximum program impact by establishing operational benchmarks, setting timelines, and ensuring child safety remains our highest priority.

Ambassador and Spokesperson

  • Represent Big Brothers Big Sisters at external partnership events and with the media.
  • Positively influence partners, the media, and public policies to generate volunteers, donors, and other resources.
  • Serve as the face of the organization locally, statewide, and nationally, advocating for the mission within the private and governmental sectors.

Board Development

  • Cultivate a strong Board of Directors willing to lead and contribute to the fund development success of the organization.
  • Work to assure independent governance oversight and performance accountability of the Board and the CEO.
  • Attend Board of Directors and Executive Board meetings as a member and provide appropriate supporting materials for the meetings.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of five years leadership experience within a non-profit organization.
  • Strong and sincere passion for the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters.
  • Successful track record as a highly organized change agent who is adept at leading human resources, budgeting, financial planning, and operations within an $1 million+ organization of 15+ employees.
  • Experience in developing and executing a fundraising strategy focused on growth  in an organization of similar size or larger; proven track record of at least three years 10% year over year  growth.
  • Prior experience improving and modernizing business tools, processes, and procedures.
  • Expertise in establishing collaborative working relationships with other community organizations, employees, and volunteers.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong public speaker to serve as the “face” of BBBS; experience building the public profile of an organization.
  • Willingness to become a Big.
  • Advocacy experience preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree required.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary range $80,000-$95,000. Compensation will be commensurate with experience including benefits and with reasonable relocation assistance if needed.
