Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Sports Director develops, organizes and implements high quality, YMCA sports and recreational programs for youth and adult.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establish new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Monitors daily gym operations to ensure all activities are being conducted safely and with regards to facility policies.
- Develop, administer, and control the sports department budget and take appropriate action to maintain the fiscal integrity of the department.
- Respond to all member, parent, and community inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
- Recruits volunteers for effective and efficient operation of YMCA programs.
- Secure and schedule athletic fields and facilities as necessary.
- Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
- Responds to all member and community inquires and complaints in timely manner.
- Complies program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
- Serve as Building Supervisor.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, sports management, physical education or equivalent experience required.
Skills/Experience:
- Two years related experience preferred; for example, as sports coordinator or supervisor.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments from the community.
- Previous hiring, supervision and development of staff.
- Experience with program design, development, implementation and retention
- Experience with collaboration of schools, universities, parks n rec., and churches in the spirit of reciprocity.
- Experience in program and volunteer development.
- Managed balanced department budget
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $28,500.00 - $34,000.00
