The largest YMCA association in Northern New England, The Granite Y, a Mid-Major YMCA with 5 branches and 2 overnight residence camps, serves over 35,000 people annually in the state. The historic Downtown Branch is located in Manchester, New Hampshire’s largest city in the heart of the business district and was incorporated in 1854. This iconic building with numerous municipal, business and non-profit partnerships and collaborations serves a broad ethnic and socio-economic demographic.
This iconic Downtown building includes: a 7,000sq ft Wellness Center, 4 lane 25 yard pool, 4 recently upgraded group exercise studios, full-size gymnasium and smaller annex gymnasium, 3 locker rooms including a newly renovated family space, dorms leased to the NH Institute of Art and a multi- roomed child care center for ages 6 months to 11 years offering year-round and school-year care and programs. Additionally, opening in September 2018, the branch will debut a 6,000sq ft community space for youth, teens, seniors and families, featuring classrooms, a fully equipped teaching kitchen, recreation and media space, a makers-space and a mini presentation center.
Under the general supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Executive Director oversees the daily operations and advancement of this $3.5 million branch. This includes 4200 membership units, programs, property management, staff and volunteer development, fundraising, community relations, and several well established community collaborations and partnerships serving over 600 youth ages 9 months -18 every school day.
- Annually develops, manages and meets or exceeds the Annual Branch Budget expectations while accomplishing the YMCA mission.
- Manages Resources and Creates Systems to accomplish the annual plan for programs and membership services.
- Annual Fundraising – Accomplishes the annual fundraising goals and objectives along with oversight of branch related grants.
- Manages the Staff Team – Hires, disciplines, trains, and coaches the branch staff on a daily basis.
- Professional Development – Ensures that all key staff continue on a learning path inclusive of YMCA best practices. Creates, implements and tracks a written professional development plan for all management staff which is updated quarterly.
- Develops a Strong Branch Staff Team whose members can be assigned YMCA-advancing responsibilities outside of their department management duties.
- Oversees and Develops the Branch Advisory Board – Serves as the key staff liaison member of the branch advisory board. Works with, and coordinates the development of, the branch committees. Working with the branch volunteers, creates and tracks the progress of the branch committee charts of work/calendars and annual accomplishments.
- Innovation & Growth - Fosters a climate of innovation to develop new programs and evaluate existing measurable to include strong financials, the Y mission, goals, and strategies.
- Community Outreach – Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community. Increases the community’s understanding, collaborations with and appreciation for the YMCA.
- Relationship Building - Grooms positive relationships with all key stakeholders, including staff, local branch volunteers, donors, and Y-supporters. Develops new positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
- Communication – Maintains high quality relationship-based member engagement strategies. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community. Utilizes positive style of management. Prepares statistical, financial and narrative reports as requested by supervisor.
- High Quality Results - Ensures that program quality tools and membership satisfaction evaluation tools are completed and are hitting or trending towards agreed upon goals.
- Risk Management - Ensures the safety and maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds, and equipment. Is also directly responsible for all staff risk management training.
- Balances Personal Advancement Role with All Other Duties – Manages time and resources effectively to produce the best branch advancement.
- Team Player – Is a member of the Leadership Team. Supports the objectives of The Granite YMCA. Serves on Quality Circles and task force as requested. Accepts The Granite YMCA special projects and ongoing responsibilities as requested.
- Follow the policies and procedures established by the organization. Role model appropriate business behavior.
- Other duties may be assigned to the branch executive director as needed.
- Six or more years of management experience, preferably in an urban YMCA, a non-profit agency or a multi-level service business or organization.
- Significant knowledge and experience in all aspects of facility operations, including staff and volunteer development, membership/service sales and retention, program development and quality initiatives, community outreach program management and fund-raising.
- Proven experience in supervising, inspiring, developing and motivating staff.
- Proven record of accomplished budget development and fiscal management.
- Proven record of successful board and volunteer recruitment, development and meaningful engagement.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- Strong understanding of building connections among community partners supporting the underserved community
- YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification recommended.
Salary Range $80,000 - $95,000 (total salary and benefits compensation value $104,000-$123,500)
